Leeds Blogger Meet
November '11

Photobucket

- I know that I am a little bit late writing this post up girls and i'm sure if you follow lots of beauty and fashion blogs especially the blogging beauties from "up north" you may have already read a little bit about this amazing day in Leeds. Although I am a complete plonker and left my camera at home on the most important day to date in my blogging life! I have been a little thief and stolen some of the pictures taken by the other gorgeous girls! All of whom I will link their blogs so you can go and check them out if you don't already.

- So Saturday morning came around and by chance it was my Saturday off! After being royally upset all week due to one thing and another (mainly bashing my car up and my parents not really recognizing the effort I went to, to fix it back up!) *sob* lets not even get into that ha ha! I was also stressing about failing at college.. which I am... in the most important year *eek!* I just felt absolutely whack. With my upset building, my lovely Grandma & Grandad took me into town for a coffee. They never fail to cheer me up and I feel bad for being a right moody so and so that morning! Anyway, the night before the gorgeous Jo @lespoirdemavie (it is a great story in itself how Jo and I know each one another) reminded me about the #leedsbloggermeet. I had heard about it through twitter a couple of weeks ago but with everything going on alate I totally forgot!!! Oops!!! I feel really bad because I just felt so rubbishy that week I didn't really fancy it... it turned out to be an absolutely fantastic day! I LOVED every single moment!!! :-) A HUGE!!!! thank-you to the amazing Ray and Tor who arranged it all for us!!!

- After hitting River Island with my G & G's I soon cheered up when my Grandma picked me out a gorgeous dress for my birthday night meal!  :-) I was due to meet the girls at around 12:30 so after much encouragement from my G's I hopped on the 110 bus and headed for the city...extremely nervous but bloody excited! Frantically texting the lovely Sinead @daintydollymix I was so worried about being late! I waited for Jo who was on the bus behind me (not literally behind me Sinead ha ha) and off we trotted to the corn xchange where we were greeted with these fabulous goody bags!!!

( I will be doing a review of some of the goodies tomorrow)

And almost 20 of the lovely bloggers. It was here that I knew that it was going to be a guuurd day - everyone was just so friendly and lovely..although I found it really difficult putting a face to a blog name haha!!

Photobucket

- We had food at the amazing Red Hot Buffet where I filled my plate....twice then wondered why I had a food baby all day :| We then hit the shops for some retail therapy, although Leeds was packed!!! With this small annoyance in mind....what did we do???

HIT THE PUB!

Photobucket

I had such a good natter with the girls! I loved chatting with my new mum the very gorgeous and lovely Lauren @laurensdressing , yes she's my mother and I have a father called Ken ...an old guy who's table we ransacked. He was a hoot! God bless him! He must have had a shock when 10+  gorgeous girlies surrounded him. ;)
I must admit I had a little too much of ye olde alcohol and ended up drunk. Oh dear! Rather embarrassing to say the least! I went to Primark after I left the other girls and bought this fab cardi that I will post about tomorrow. Jo was literally helping me stand up ha ha !!! Oh dear WINE EYE!

Photobucket

It was an absolutely amazing day and I can't wait to see everyone again! I know that Jo,  Tor and Lauren have written posts about the day so pleaaaseee make sure you go check those out :-) I hope there is another meet up soon and to anybody who may think about coming along PLEASE do, it's a great way to meet other like minded, bloggy girls and generally have a bloody fantastic time!

Crest Whitening Strips

Striving for a
Hollywood smile

- I have always been a huge fan of a gorgeous smile. I think that lovely, white teeth give you a great first impression of someone on an instant. Quite a long time ago I posted about my quest to whiter and brighter teeth.
[ That post is linked under the 'Teeth Whitening' tag if you'd like to read about other budget teeth whitening products i've tried ] I solely wanted to try the Crest Whitening strips because I too wanted a lovely set of knashers.

A couple of weeks ago my Grandma and Grandad flew over to America to see my aunt and my cousins for a few weeks. My Grandma is such a babe and asked me if there was anything that was 'Stateside official' that I wanted bringing back. Of course there were the usual requests such as Hersheys 'kisses' chocolates *yumyum!* and OPI Nail varnish but I also had another product in the back of my mind that I was dying to try!

All hail Crest Whitening Strips

Photobucket

- I was first introduced to them last year when my ex boyfriend had been bought some for Christmas and I was flabbergasted by the amazing results they left him with. I knew I just had to have some of that. Unfortunately they aren't as readily available in the UK :-( *sob* In the States you can pick them up from the local WalMart which is exactly where I was sending my Grandma the moment she got off the plane in Boston!
I sent her out with the instructions to buy the middle strength strips as I have uber sensitive teeth and I didn't want to endure half an hour of excruciating pain. Low and behold 3 weeks later I was presented with the beauties! And I couldn't bloody WAIT to try them out!

Photobucket

You can buy the whitening strips in a few different varieties such as 'Professional Effects', Gentle Routine' and '2 Hour Express'.

Photobucket

The ones that I have used are the 'Advanced Vivid' ones which states you dramatically start noticing the difference within 3 days. And boy did I!

In the little box you get 28 strips in total (One for your top teeth and one for your bottom set] There us 14 pouches included in the set so the treatment is intended to last a fortnight There is some instructions included also if your a first timer like me.

The routine is really simple. I like to use mine in the evening when i'm just chilling out, watching the telly and i've eaten.
The pack advises you don't do the treatment shortly after brushing your teeth for better results.

Are They Safe To Use?
The Strips are coated in Hydrogen Peroxide. This is the same 'enamel safe' ingredient that dentists use for tooth whitening. Tests have shown the product is safe when used correctly.

I have sensitive teeth, do they hurt?
I have really sensitive teeth and yes I was a little bit nervous about using them because of this reason alone. I noticed a little bit of something going on the first time I used them, it wasn't painful more like a little tingly sensation however this was only temporary and by strip number 2 I felt nothing.

When you open up the little foil pouch the gel strips are on a clear piece of plastic.

Photobucket

Peel them off the plastic as they are tacky and apply the long straight one to your top set of teeth. And the shorter more shaply strip to your bottom set. It's a little bit fiddly and you have to wrap the excess strip around the bottom and tops of your teeth so it's secure.

Photobucket

Now for the funny bit. [To begin with I admit I myself, was drooling all over myself and lisping like nobody's business]

Photobucket

The strip sort of like foams up on your teeth and the product is a little odd tasting I kept messing with the strip with my tongue and it made the tip of my tongue a little bit sore ha ha! So I advice you not to do that.

After the first application depending on how white your teeth already are you may find some little white patches on your teeth, don't worry I did too but after strip number 4 they disappeared.

You wear the stripes for 30 mins, then simply remove them and throw the drooley used strip away :) At this point I like to brush my teeth to get rid of the teeth and to reveal my gorgeous white teeth!

Photobucket

I urge anybody lady or gent to try these if you are looking for instant, bright white and gorgeous teeth! The strips lift all the stains on your teeth and if like me you thought you had white teeth then you will be very surprised after using these.

Now, they are a little pricey and I know it is COMPLETELY unlike me to EVER go for something expensive if there was a budget option to use instead! Sadly, Bodycare couldn't offer me an alternative but I can honestly 100% say that this treatment is the best thing i've ever used! It worked on an instant and I am so so so so happy with the results, you can see yourself how powerful they are! Absolutely amazing! They range from around £21 to about £39 depending on which type you buy.

Here are a couple of places you can buy them as like I said you can't buy them here :(

Crest say that you can use up to two treatments a year. I DEFINITELY will be doing this again but for now I am absolutely LOVING my hollywood smile! Just in time for my birthday :-) Woo!

I hope you found this helpful as I have been getting quite few questions on Twitter asking me how I got my teeth so white!

Love,
Holl!

Henna Shampoo & Conditioner

Preventing Colour Loss With
Henna

- With the exception of a few misjudgments so to speak when I was about 13 years old, as a natural dark brunette I have always played around with colouring my hair in shades of plum, red, chocolate, light mocha and caramel. Against my naturally (believe it or not) almost translucently pale skintone and my black as night eyebrows it is always the safer bet to add warmth to my face using the 'plum/red' family of shades.

Which is exactly what I have been doing for around 18 months now.

I like how a red tone in my dark hair adds warmth to my complexion, makes my green eyes stand out and gives my hair colour a bit of an 'edge'. I know every other girl that you see in the street has a red tone on their hair but i'm not talking about that crazy Rihanna red, my favourite red shade and the most suiting to dark brunettes such as myself, is the deep plum. Not only does it look lush but it also blends your roots too, they are barely noticeable.

I am often asked how frequently I dye my hair as I never seem to show my dark roots. The answer is not very often, perhaps every 16 weeks or so. If you read This Post a while ago you will already know why and how ruined my hair is from the pure gallons of hair dye I have slapped on my head over the years.

It then confuses people as to why i'm not showing any roots.
I have a secret.
and it's the form of Henna.

My mum always had red hair as I was growing up and told me that henna helps enrich the colour for longer. For ages I hunted around looking for some henna products but it was to no avail. Then, whilst shopping in Bodycare (yes ofcourse) I spotted for a quid each these little babies.

Photobucket
- Henara 'with natural henna extracts colour enhancing shampoo & conditioner for a renewed colour and lustrous shine'

Basically the product contains natural henna to enrich the red tones in your hair. There are shampoos and conditioners for both light and dark hair. Obviously the one I am using is for dark hair. You use them as you would your normal shampoo and conditioner but for richer tones you leave it in your hair for a few minutes longer.
Admittedly, both products have a funky smell about them but it isn't unpleasant and chemically.

.....So a little more about Henna.

Henna is natural vegetable tannin. (Odd I know) It not only stains your hair but makes it stronger as the tannin molecules bind to your hair, after adding henna to your hair it eradicates split ends and is much softer. By using henna it adds a tint to your existing colour.
For example....

If you have dark brown hair, in the light (after using henna) your hair will highlight in the shades of chestnut and mahogany.

If you have blonde hair, it will add tones of vibrant red.

If you have medium brown hair it will give you highlights or a rich, deep red.

However this is only if you use henna in it's natural form. I have noticed since using the Henara shampoo and conditioner that the vibrancy, softness and colour pigmentation of my plum coloured hair is phenomenal, every-time I wash my hair with it it looks as though it is freshly dyed. WINNER. :-)

I strongly recommend that you try this if you have dark hair or red hair and would like to add some more red tone to your hairs pigmentation in the light.
Don't worry, it doesn't dye your hair. And if you stop using the shampoo and conditioner it will just wash out.
