When My Makeup Is On I Feel Like A Rockstar
click, click, click flash♥

- I am soooo excited! Yesterday (November, 29th if you are reading this post later) was my birthday and a big one at that! Woohoo! As promised I said that I would post OOTN's of each of my celebrations and a few pictures of my birthday goodies.
So after a busy morning opening my cards and presents whilst watching Sex And The City, I went to see my grandparents and ate lots of yummy cake that my best friend and Stanford Blach made for me!! Yummy Malteser, chocolate cake! scrumptious here's a sneaky picture of the little piece of heaven!

Photobucket

I was so blessed to have received some fabulous gifts and I am ever grateful for such wonderful family and friends who have made it such a great occasion! Here's a few sneaky pics of some of my goodies.

And here is the all important dress!
Photobucket

Photobucket

It is from the 'Chelsea Girl' line at River Island costing around £30 ish. Believe it or not my 69 year old Grandma picked it out. I had originally chosen a lacey number but my grandma said it would be nice to try the one that she liked. My first impressions of the dress were "I will never wear that". I then tried it on and I realised it's unique style was RIGHT up my street, after trying it on and dancing around the fitting rooms it was a done deal!

My mum, dad and myself were all dolled up to eat at my favourite Thai restaurant in Leeds city centre called 'Chaophraya' I had a glorious evening sipping Cosmos and eating yummy food! It was the perfect birthday spending time with my family.

I am soooo excited for my final instalment. The BIG one on saturday! SATC STYLE! Woohoo! I cannot wait to share all my photographs from that! Let me tell you, the dress I have for that is so beautiful I dare not wear it *eek!*

I spent today in the Trafford centre with my mum and dad spending my birthday pennies. There is absolutely NO excuse for a good old haul! [Look out for that on Friday!] I have had such a fabulous birthday week so far and cannot wait to round it all off on saturday with my girlies and my Stanford Blach!

I would also like to thank EVERYBODY who tweeted me for my birthday it really made my day seeing all the wonderful birthday wishes! Thankyou! Thankyou! Thankyou!

And All Around These Golden Beacons, I
 See Nothing But Black ....♥

[A rather strange post title I know, all will be revealed in my NOTD ♥]

- If you follow me on Twitter I am sure you will have seen me repeatedly tweeting on about my birthday which is coming up on Tuesday *yay*. I know I go on about it but I am just SOOOO excited. My parents have been very generous as it is such a big birthday and I am very lucky to be able to celebrate three times this week.

A big birthday certainly calls for some extreme beauty pampering! I was lucky enough to have had my hair re coloured a gorgeous, vibrant warm red. It was a nightmare waiting for my appointment to come around, sporting a completely washed out, pink-toned, rooty mop. I was overjoyed on Thursday to finally have a lush colour back. Jess, my hairdresser did a great job and settled my concerns as I was unsure about having a bleach on my already damaged hair. We only left the bleach on for 6 minutes and believe it or not my hair didn't look any different. I was expecting to turn ginge in an instant. We then slapped the red dye on and I was amazed to see that FINALLY my hair looked red. I know it sounds odd but after applying gallons of red dye onto my hair it only ever looked red in the light and I wanted it to look red in any light. I am pleased to say that having a little bleach applied my hair, my hair was sent rocketing into
red alert. And better still my hair is in lush condition! *woohoo*

Being the birthday babe I was also treated to having my nails done. As a regular nail nibbler [Absolutely ming, I know] it is always rather embarrassing for me to show people my hands I knew I needed acrylic to save my cringe tastic nails. They took around an hour and half to be completed.

Photobucket

I chose a mysterious black with tiny gold flecks as my main nail colour and opted for a sparkly celebratory tip courtesy of OPI. I am sooo pleased with them and even my mum who is not a fan of dark nail varnish loved them! I opted for these colours as both my party dresses are dark in colour. I think black nail polish is just me.

I am also having an airbrush SU-DO tan next week in preparation for my Sex And The City party! I shall be posting OOTD'S, birthday vlogs, posts and pictures in the order of the celebrations. That way you will be able to see each outfit in more detail. :)
HOWEVER, I will give you a sneaky preview of the shoes I will be wearing over all three nights.

Photobucket
I ABSOLUTELY adore these babes and better still, they were a barginous £13 from Leeds market!! They also came in gold.

Despite a nasty bug affecting not only myself but a few of my family members, this weekend hosted a family celebration where all my family came together for a good old party. I wore this 1970's inspired shift dress from New Look, teamed with a black and gold skinny belt.

Photobucket
Dress - New Look
Belt - Primark
Earrings - New Look
Waistcoat - Zara
Shoes - Pop Boutique (my dad had a fit about stilettos on his wood floor so I opted for a 'wood friendly' wedge)

Here are a few photo's of the night for you to see, How awesome is my cupcake cake!! Hehe!
I did vlog a lot that night and I will merge it together with footage from the upcoming nights for you to see my birthday shenanigans!

October
Glossybox

Photobucket

- Whether it be on Twitter, YouTube or indeed here on blogger I am betting that EVERYBODY who reads beauty blogs or writes them has heard of the term 'Glossybox'. Now, girls, I know what you are thinking. Oh for goodness sake, not ANOTHER review! *facepalm*

Yes, this may be another Glossybox post however, I am reviewing the product with an 18 year olds opinion in mind. And given that most of my readers are around that age give or take a few years this post is definitely worth while to read.

After seeing the fabulous content of the September Glossybox and being inundated monthly with Glossybox phenomena I have been considering for some time whether to just take the plunge and sign up for my very own. As a budget beauty babe I often stay clear of 'high end products' and stick to my Bodycare and drugstore favourites however, sometimes in life us girls need a little luxury right?

Photobucket

After being very generously offered to try out the October box I thought it would be a great idea to actually sit with the box in front of me and ponder whether I would recruit myself as a subscriber.

Now, I am sure you have already seen what was inside the October box but I have been doing a little bit of road testing with the products that came inside and asked myself the most important question of all.

Is it really worth it?

First things first was I happy with what I received? I certainly LOVE the packaging and the feeling of luxury I got from opening up the beautiful box. I felt very special indeed! Just like Christmas, although I kind of knew what I was getting as this box has done the rounds here in bloggyland!

Robert Piguet Eau de Parfums (8ml samples, full size product is 50 ml for £65.00)
Photobucket
- Perfume samples, always handy for your handbag and what not and surprisingly I am rather fond of the scent named 'Visa', this I actually am contemplating buying the full sized product as I like the scent. The other two scents I can take or leave.

Leighton Denny Expert Nails Colour and Care ( 12 ml full size sample £11.00)
Photobucket
- I am pleased to have received a full size sample in this months box and I also like the colour, I know that for winter it's not really the shade but for the summer time I shall be sporting this on my toes for sure. I have the colour 'Hanky Panky' and I am aware that other boxes contained varying colours. I am actually wearing this shade now and although the colour needs a few coats to become opaque - it hasn't chipped in 7 days. *YAY*

Dermalogica Age Smart Samples. Multivitamin Thermafoliant (15ml sample, 75ml full size £40.50) Multivitamin Power Recover Masque (15ml sample, 70ml full size £33.00) and the Renewal Lip Complex (1ml sample, 1.75ml full size £22.50) This products also came with a cute and rather handy Dermalogica bag
- Okay so I have tried out all of these samples and I like them all, although they have worked no more miracles on my skin (which is going through a particularly nasty stage at the moment) than my Neutrogena 2in1 wash and mask. So are they really worth the price of the full sized product? And secondly, the majority of women subscribing to the Glossybox are young. I know that Glossybox are catering to everybody but at 18, I could do with some products helping the problems young people get such as spots and oily skin etc.

Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof eyeliner (Full size product £13.00)
- Now this is more up my street! Something versatile for every age! I have literally worn this everyday since receiving the Glossybox the shade 'Moray' suits all eye colours and really enhances the green in my eyes particularly. It is also extremely waterproof. Through my week of tears and tantrums this stuff did not budge!

And heres what I think.
I enjoyed the surprise of opening my Glossybox and seeing what goodies were inside, and yes I was pleased to receive two full sized products that would have cost me over the subscription price alone...oh and the joy of trying out new products, as a beauty blogger this is always going to be a good thing right?
However, the question is will I be subscribing to Glossybox?
Although I love the concept... for a student with barely any disposable income (none at all when I go to uni next year) I just KNOW that I can't afford to shell out a tenner and a month and then pay P + P.. it's just not justifiable for a student and obviously it is us who read the blogs and hear about these things and want to try them!

I know that the box costs probably way less than what I spend on beauty items in a month however, I would like to be certain that I will like the things I am receiving. I don't want to pay £10 + P&P for products I know will just sit in a draw which is what is very, very likely to happen.
I am very shallow *yes slap on the wrist* and only tend to go for the products that I know i'll love (usually products I have read about here on blogger and the ones doing the 'bloggy hype' )I reckon if the girls with the pennies to subscribe write a good review on a product they receive in the box I am more likely to buy it that way.

I know that the Glossybox concept is practical for lots of lovely ladies however, for myself as a struggling student it isn't practical. I would like to thank Glossybox for giving me the opportunity to sample their concept and who knows if Glossybox is still around when I can afford to feed myself as well as 'glossy it up' I might well subscribe!

Do you subscribe to Glossybox? What are your personal pro's and con's of the concept?

Leeds Blogger Meet
November '11

Photobucket

- I know that I am a little bit late writing this post up girls and i'm sure if you follow lots of beauty and fashion blogs especially the blogging beauties from "up north" you may have already read a little bit about this amazing day in Leeds. Although I am a complete plonker and left my camera at home on the most important day to date in my blogging life! I have been a little thief and stolen some of the pictures taken by the other gorgeous girls! All of whom I will link their blogs so you can go and check them out if you don't already.

Photobucket

- So Saturday morning came around and by chance it was my Saturday off! After being royally upset all week due to one thing and another (mainly bashing my car up and my parents not really recognizing the effort I went to, to fix it back up!) *sob* lets not even get into that ha ha! I was also stressing about failing at college.. which I am... in the most important year *eek!* I just felt absolutely whack. With my upset building, my lovely Grandma & Grandad took me into town for a coffee. They never fail to cheer me up and I feel bad for being a right moody so and so that morning! Anyway, the night before the gorgeous Jo @lespoirdemavie (it is a great story in itself how Jo and I know each one another) reminded me about the #leedsbloggermeet. I had heard about it through twitter a couple of weeks ago but with everything going on alate I totally forgot!!! Oops!!! I feel really bad because I just felt so rubbishy that week I didn't really fancy it... it turned out to be an absolutely fantastic day! I LOVED every single moment!!! :-) A HUGE!!!! thank-you to the amazing Ray and Tor who arranged it all for us!!!

Photobucket

- After hitting River Island with my G & G's I soon cheered up when my Grandma picked me out a gorgeous dress for my birthday night meal!  :-) I was due to meet the girls at around 12:30 so after much encouragement from my G's I hopped on the 110 bus and headed for the city...extremely nervous but bloody excited! Frantically texting the lovely Sinead @daintydollymix I was so worried about being late! I waited for Jo who was on the bus behind me (not literally behind me Sinead ha ha) and off we trotted to the corn xchange where we were greeted with these fabulous goody bags!!!

Photobucket

( I will be doing a review of some of the goodies tomorrow)

Photobucket

And almost 20 of the lovely bloggers. It was here that I knew that it was going to be a guuurd day - everyone was just so friendly and lovely..although I found it really difficult putting a face to a blog name haha!!

Photobucket

- We had food at the amazing Red Hot Buffet where I filled my plate....twice then wondered why I had a food baby all day :| We then hit the shops for some retail therapy, although Leeds was packed!!! With this small annoyance in mind....what did we do???

HIT THE PUB!

Photobucket

I had such a good natter with the girls! I loved chatting with my new mum the very gorgeous and lovely Lauren @laurensdressing , yes she's my mother and I have a father called Ken ...an old guy who's table we ransacked. He was a hoot! God bless him! He must have had a shock when 10+  gorgeous girlies surrounded him. ;)
I must admit I had a little too much of ye olde alcohol and ended up drunk. Oh dear! Rather embarrassing to say the least! I went to Primark after I left the other girls and bought this fab cardi that I will post about tomorrow. Jo was literally helping me stand up ha ha !!! Oh dear WINE EYE!

Photobucket

It was an absolutely amazing day and I can't wait to see everyone again! I know that Jo,  Tor and Lauren have written posts about the day so pleaaaseee make sure you go check those out :-) I hope there is another meet up soon and to anybody who may think about coming along PLEASE do, it's a great way to meet other like minded, bloggy girls and generally have a bloody fantastic time!

Beauty Haul

The beauty bug

has bitten

Photobucket

- Yesterday both nervous and extremely excited I attended the #leedsbloggermeet, I will be writing a separate post on this lovely occasion tomorrow so if anybody is interested in finding out what happened when 20 or so beauty and fashion obsessed strangers met outside the corn exchange in Leeds, keep your eyes peeled. However, after a busy blogging related weekend I woke up this morning feeling as though I had been bitten by the beauty bug. After work, I popped into Superdrug and Boots to pick up some essential items and to also have a scout around for an exciting product (or two) to jump in my basket.

Photobucket

- With my bright red hair set to fade the moment I wash out the dye, I have been on the look out for a new Henna based shampoo and conditioner. These two from the Boots 'Botanics' range were buy one get the other half price. BARGAIN. As it's my birthday coming up, I will be having my hair professionally coloured red in two weeks time so I will be saving these beauties to see if they make any difference to the colour fade and shine. The range also includes the same products for both brunette and blonde hair. For the price, you can't go wrong

Photobucket

- After a week of intense stress bashing my car and completely losing my rag with everything, I took it all out on my poor nails, which had grown really strong and nice over the past year that I had stopped biting them. For my birthday I will be having gels put back on but in the meantime i'm not loving the 'stubby, sore, bitten effect' I always feel like people will judge me when they see the state of my fingernails THEREFORE. FAKE IT! I can't wait to give these a go tonight. I like square nails so I picked the short square ones in the hope I can finally appreciate my new, gorgeous nail varnishs'!

Photobucket

- Need I say more? Although i'm pretty annoyed that the Co-Op only had the medium tan in stock! Grr! AND to add to my annoyance... They are so pricey in there £5!!!! Err, I shall be heading STRAIGHT back to Bodycare ASAP!

Photobucket

- You will have no idea how excited I was to see this!!! LEOPARD PRINT BATISTE! Oh my, it was love. I cast aside my usual 'tropical' Batiste and went totally wild for this one. Like they always say, packaging sells! It was half price at Boots on an introductory offer which I thought was rather snazzy!

Photobucket

- 2True in Superdrug - a budget beauty junkies saviour, once again my love for barginous makeup is eternal! Three products for £4.99! I picked up a gorgeous sparkly pink lip gloss after being tempted yesterday by the MAC Dazzle Glass', I also picked up a concealer as I had run out and finally some lashes! (The whole reason I went into Superdrug) Originally, I was after the Kimberly lashes however, I saw these and couldn't get over how both glam and sublte they looked.... if that's even possible? *thinks* Anyway I can't wait to try them out tomorrow!

The Chronicle

Someday Summary?
 Wednesday

Photobucket

- I'm back with another 'Chronicle' post. For those of you who haven't seen this kind of post before, it is basically a reoccurring feature of my blog that isn't necessarily 100% beauty or fashion related, whereby you can get to know me a little better through things I'm thinking about, wishing for and such. Sometimes it includes pictures of my week and pictures that inspire me and answers to questions I have been asked via twitter or on YouTube etc etc. :)

I know that it has been a long time since I last posted a 'chronicle' so I hope you enjoy seeing this little feature making a return.

Photobucket

001 I can't believe that it is November already! My favorite month ever! Why? Because it is my month of birth? Well... not entirely I love bonfire night eating yummy toffee apples and the smell of smoke in the air on a crisp, cold night. And I absolutely love the lead up to Christmas too. My Stanford Blach and I have our tradition whereby as soon as the Christmas lights are turned on we visit Costa every Thursday for large hot chocolates with  marshmallows and chocolate christmas tree dippers THE FULL WORKS. We like to sit all snuggled up in our winter coats watching everybody hurry around the Christmas market. I love it. My dad and I also start making our Christmas cakes ready for testing on Christmas eve! Some say that I chose a tricky time to be born, but I love it! I think this is the BEST time of year.
First and for-most though, I am super excited about my birthday! I am having quite the celebration, SEX AND THE CITY STYLE. Yes that's right I am having the ultimate Sex and The City themed party. I don't want to say too much now as I actually want to do some vlogging that night but it is going to be one glamourous affair. I bought my dress from Lipsy a few weeks ago. It's not my usual style but I was persuaded by it's gorgeous purple, jewel tone colour, soft flowing chiffon, sparkly rhinestones and it's cut away back.
I cannot WAIT to wear it. My shoes match also..those I will show you they are from Next. :)

Photobucket
I won't be wearing the sparkly stiletto's all night though as we are planning to head out in Leeds afterwards.
Photobucket
So I am swapping them for a more comfy platform ready to dance the night away! Over the coming weeks I will be having my hair re coloured, a SU-do tan (if anybody has tried that kind of airbrush tan PLEAAAAAAASE let me know what you think) my eyebrows re-sculpted by HD brows and my gel nails popped back on...if that isn't enough to cheer me up I don't know what is!

 Photobucket
002. Aside from this future excitement the past couple of weeks have been so crappy it's unreal. I know there are a lot of you in the same boat as me and some of you are interested in my future plans however what I don't know is what has overcome me alate. Finding that crucial and desperately needed motivation to get up on a morning and drag myself into college to work has been so, so hard. Both myself and my friend Chloe have said that the pressure has been upped considerable amounts this year and my hugs go out to anybody else who is in their last year of A Level. You guys already know how seriously desperate I am to pop off to university to study Journalism. I just want to be a journalist. It just feels so depressing when you have an essay pushed infant of you, with a big fat D slapped on it. This month I have sent off my UCAS form to Sheffield University, Sunderland, Northumbria, Nottingham Trent and Leeds. I am just in the waiting game now to see if I get any offers. I am absolutely petrified I won't and I think this is why this year I'm on the edge of a mental breakdown. I need to bag myself outstanding grades to set me apart from the rest. But I know me, and I know I am not naturally intelligent, I need to work super, super hard to achieve those vital AAA grades - However, with this sheer lack of motivation I feel this goal is a million miles away! Not only this but I had an incident with scraping and making a bit of a mess of not only my car but somebody else's today which has been the icing on top of a very mouldy cake! Eek! [ I know he will never read this] but a huge thankyou to my dad for not shouting and me today after my driving incident. Calling your dad up to say you've had a bash is never a good call to make! Love you Dad!

 Photobucket
003. WISH LIST.
- OPI - Lincoln Park After Dark
- MAC - Angel
'The' bloggers bag (you know which one I mean girls!)
Oh, and I wish for my skin to clear up! :-( These stressy times have caused havoc with my face! Eek!
Sooo i'm spending the night watching SATC again, yes again and drinking tea. All I want to do is just chill out on my own and forget about all the bleurgh! Who needs hassle ey! With all this stress I can't wait to go out and party EVEN MORE!

Makeup & Beauty Storage

So where do you put ALL
      that makeup Hollie?

Photobucket

- I first started getting into makeup when I was about thirteen or so and even then my 'makeup routine' consisted of a slick of cheapy pink lipgloss and a swish of cheapy mascara. Believe it or not 'back in the day' I was quite the tomboy. I had more guy friends than girls and wasn't really that bothered about looking good and feeling nice and girly. Here I am mascara and lipgloss and all. I think (If I can remember rightly) this was taken on my thirteenth birthday. Nice brassy highlights!
Photobucket

I then went through a VERY odd stage of wanting to look like a 'goth' - perhaps this was because a guy I REALLY fancied was a bit of a mosher and I wanted to impress him. I used to wear horrible thick and crispy liquid liner and a full pout of black lippy. YUCK.

Here I am sporting this look. Very nice.
Photobucket

- Nowadays I am the ultimate girly girl when it comes to makeup and beauty products. I enjoy putting makeup on and creating different looks.

Photobucket

I think it's a miracle I ever got to this way of thinking looking back on how I valued makeup as a younger teenager.

I originally wanted to do a YouTube video on my 'makeup & beauty collection' but since my laptop dilemma, I have been putting off making videos until I can edit and upload them properly. I have this really weird quirk where I have to have things spot on or I may as well not bother.
So as my most requested video I have decided to show you my collection in blog form *yay*

As the 'budget beauty' queen I don't want to disappoint anybody but this post definitely isn't about me showing you a collection made up of all MAC, NARS and whatever else I can't actually afford. You know me girls, my motto of "why pay more for the same thing from a budget beauty store" is as true as it ever was and this reflects in my collection. I also don't 'hoard' makeup. I buy it as and when I need it. I can't justify spending £12 + on something to sit festering in my storage draws untouched for weeks apart.

So here we go....

1. My makeup storage
Photobucket
- Since diving into the whole 'beauty community' here on blogger and also on YouTube, I will admit my makeup collection has grown enormously from the five essentials I used to tote around in a Claire's makeup bag! I will admit I am hugely persuaded to buy a product after it has done the rounds of the bigger beauty bloggers. However, I never actually buy it. I always buy a Bodycare cheapy option and rave about that on my 'monthly favorites' instead. Obviously bigger collection means more storage! I bought this set of black 'snake print effect' draws from the Lawrence Llwelyn - Bowen line at Matalan. I liked the fact it looked smart and contemporary and not too space hugging. It was originally bought for storing my college books... *rolls eyes* priorities and all that!

2. The Top Draw
Photobucket
- I like chronological order (A strange OCD quirk I have). So the draws correspond to the process of my makeup application.
Here in the top draw I store all my face creams, primers, foundations, tinted moisturisers and concealers. I have the Eyeko creams, Revlon, Maybelline, MAC and Bourjois foundations. PanOxyl cream, Simple moisturisers, clinique moisturisers and illuminators, Topshop Skin tints. Some Laura Mercier and MAC samples. BB cream samples. Bodycare primers.
I like to use the Eyeko creams as a base for my foundation in the day time. On a night I use 'Prime It' from Technic. After i've taken my makeup off I use the Derma V10 "Q10 Innovations" night cream.

3. The 2nd Draw
Photobucket
- Next up I have loose powders from W7, powder foundations by Maxfactor. highlighters by Benefit and Technic, various No7, H&M, Revlon, Technic and Maybelliene lipsticks and lipgloss'. I like to decide on my lip colour for the day or night before I get to my eyes so I know whether to create a more natural eye for a strong lip and vice versa. In here I also have blushes' and bronzers by Collection 2000 and Technic.

4. The 3rd Draw
Photobucket
- In the the third draw I store my eye shadow pallets and my MUA eyebrow powder in dark brown. I have pallets by Sunkissed, Technic, W7, FrontCover, Too Faced and Avon. I highly recommend the Technic multi colour's palette for £3 at Bodycare the colour variety is amazing and they are so pigmented and long lasting on the eye. I also have some masking tape thrown in here for when I am creating a creative look on my eyes and need defined sharp edges of colour.

5. The 4th Draw
Photobucket
- My favourite draw and the last one I get to when I'm applying my makeup.
I am a totally mascara girl! I have a few that I am using at the moment, My favourite being MAC 'Zoom Lash' , I have others by the Bodyshop, No7, Maybelline and Max Factor. I have all kinds of coloured eye pencil and crayons in a variety of colours. Individual eye shadows from MAC and CK, Gel eye liners and just general eye stuff really.

The CHAOS.
Photobucket
- In this large container that I have underneath my bed I throw all my extra beauty products such as fake tan, moisturers, nail varnish, skincare products etc etc, it is absolutely MENTAL in this draw, I sort it out every so often but always resorts back to this chaotic mess!

Photobucket

And there you have it. :-) My makeup-collection! I must dash I need to transform into Holly Golightly aka Audrey Hepburn. It's my friends' 18th and the theme is Hollywood movie and rock stars :-) Breakfast at Tiffany's is one of my favourite films ever I can't WAIT to dress up as her. :) I'll be twitpicing some pictures so watch out for those :-) x
