If you are going to work for a magazine ..work forGrazia

This week I was lucky enough to be invited back to the Leeds Trinity University 'Journalism week'. Having attended a few of the days last year through college, it was an honour to be asked by the lovely Katie if I would like to pop along to one of the days, of course I jumped at the opptunity.
Journalism week is an established event at the university whereby industry professionals and insiders from broadcast and print journalists to social media moguls are invited to give workshops and lectures about the real journalism world.

I was invited to attend a workshop run by Deputy editor at Grazia magazine, Marianne Jones.
Marianne has worked on Grazia for eight years and alongside many other positions in the industry she has experience at some huge titles as she was previously the editor of More magazine and the features editor for Marie Claire.

So, as you can imagine I was more than eager to meet and listen to somebody who has the job

"A million girls would kill for."

Marianne shared with us lots of useful information regarding the magazine industry and specifically life as Grazia team player.

I will be honest….

On the train I was picturing what Marianne might look like, I had specifically not googled her as I wanted to create a mental picture and then compare the real Marianne to how I had first imagined her.

And let me tell you, she was not at all how I thought she would be.
I was expecting a super stern, suit wearing, ' tortoise shell glasses on the end of the nose' kind of lady.

Too much Devil wears Prada, I know

Instead I opened the door to find a lovely, smiling Marianne wearing a gorgeous jumper with a sequined planet on it and a turquoise skirt. Oh, and a fabulous rose gold watch.
Unlike some professionals I have met from the industry Marianne was warm and very helpful when I asked her a few questions after the workshop.

Although I am already an avid reader, Marianne really sold Grazia magazine as a publication to me and made me really want to work there! She described it as an eccelectic mix of people and not for one minute did she shun the vital work experience and internships, in fact, she really pushed it and made it appear that Grazia magazine felt the same way.

She added air to my already momentous desire to become a features editor for a magazine and it was really refreshing to speak to someone who was happy to speak to the potential next batch of
glossy magazine girls.

And as for my outfit of the day?
…Just the usual ha ha!

I know that if I want to get my foot in the door, I have to go to London - there is no if, but's or maybes and Marianne concreted this to me personally.

On my way home I popped into Primark and picked myself up a lovely new T-Shirt from Primark.

With your feet in the air and your head on the ground.

- ….Just a few bits & pieces I have picked up over the past fortnight.
I know this sounds crazy because I have the option to not strictly speaking have to do uni this way if I stay at home and commute and it's my own self inflicted silly fault.
I am absolutely petrified of being penniless and living hand to mouth at university, I really am.
Not because I like to spend ALL my money on handbags and clothes all the time but i'm really afraid of having nothing Down to the little things like being able to afford birthday presents. :S
. I know you're all sat there saying gosh woman suck it up and deal with it, that is part of the university experience !
I know, I know.
I am just a little apprehensive about it. My parents can't afford to send me shit loads of money weekly like some of my friends parents can and i'm not entirly sure how much i'll have given from my grant to live on and it's scaring me, profoundly.

See how much trouble bloody university is causing me ha ha!
I'll be glad when i'm just there and I know where I am and I know how much money I have and what i'm doing.

Incase you haven't noticed….. I have a terrible fear of the unknown.

I always have to know where i'm going, what i'm doing, when i'm doing it.

Anyway… onto the reason you clicked on this post.
[I'm getting fed up of boring everyone to tears with it also.]

[Earrings, Primark]

[Dress, H&M Sale]

[Leather jacket, £10 Primark reduced rail]

[Leopard print ear muff thingy ma-jig - International]

[Scarf - Primark]

…Also this week I dyed my hair…again. This time using Loreal 'Casting creme gloss' in - Black Cherry.
I absolutley love it, it is quite dark and i've realised how much I have missed dark, luscious locks.
Don't worry though - Still crazy red in the sunlight just a little bit more sophisticated and doesn't show my roots as much as the pinky toned red did. ;)

I have an exciting event on the horizen, Safe to say I am super excited for next Tuesday.
I will keep you posted.
Thankyou for reading my blog and as always thankyou to my supportive continuous readers :-)

- Back in September 2011 when I sported dark brunette hair and a summer tan, I filmed an 'everyday college and work makeup' video for my  YouTube Channel
If you are interested in watching that the link is here :-)   Everyday face video.
Several months later my hair is now a shade of cherry and I no longer wear a sunkissed glow. In the bleak month of February it is safe to say that my everyday makeup has indeed changed.

I find myself going through transiant phases of the 'vintage pin up look' and the 'natural "Made In Chelsea" look' so it is hard to pin point my exact makeup style.
Never the less I thought it would make an interesting little post to share with you lovely people what products I use daily to create my current 'Old everyday face'

and without further ado……

MAC - Angel :) The perfect nude!

The Chronicle
the past few days have been spent…

- It's February half term *Hooray* and I have decided to make the most of the oh so precious days away from the hell hole that is college. I have literally reached the point of desperation to just leave and kiss goodbye to A level examinations. Only the words whizzing around inside my head 10 weeks to go, 10 weeks to go are keeping me sane.

This aside I have had been a very busy bee. :-)

(This post is currently written here) Liverpool Lime Street station haha :)

Saturday night I spent with a friend, we went out for a curry at a niceee place called the Cinnamon Lounge which was yummmmmy. Slightly embarrasing moment when I couldn't actually get into his car :S 5 foot 2 Holl, bad ass landrover …not so good, classy. But I had a lovely evening and this time I did not get drunk in his company… Although that says more about him not me. ;)

It is a really shoddy photograph I know but I wore this Kimono style dress from the HandM sale, I bought it for £8 and teamed it with this cute oriental-esc scarf from Primark and some shoe boots. I also bought the most fabulous cheapy coat too to go with it. (It features in a photograph a little further down.)

Sunday night I spent with my best friend Charlotte.

We have been close friends since we were around six years old and I miss her so much when she is away at university in Wolverhampton. We found an old voice recorder that we used to mess around on when we were about 12 years old. We used to record stupid message and then prank call the boys we fancied. Cringe I know!!!! Listening to them back I almost died of laughter, six years on and we are still complete nutters. I love Charlotte she's a gem! :-)

Monday. TRAUMA. I was walking to work and realised when I got to the bus stop that I had lost my bus pass. Now, when you lose this you do not realise how much it is like gold dust!!!! Eeek the bloody bus cost me like nearly 5 pounds to travel 2 miles!!!! Yes I started panicking and getting upset that I had lost it forever and I would be poor. I got to work and decided to turn back around run all the way back to the bus station to catch a bus to run a mile to find my bus pass to come back to start work an hour late! It was a very windy day and there was rubbish blowing all over the road, as you can imagine I was practically defeated. THEN!!!! ON THE FLOOR TWO MINUTES AWAY FROM MY HOUSE
a metro photocard!!!! I screamed, I shouted I cried, I laughed wow!!! You have no idea the relief.

Monday night I went out with my friends as you can see from these photographs I was celebrating Valentines with a green sticker on for single hahaha and plenty of sambuca,

let's just say the night was peeeeerfeccccct :) I won't bore you with details but it was perfect…well as a perfectionist it was semi perfect! :)

Tuesday, V DAY, one year on since my dumping I had such a wondeful night with my Stanford Blach, we ate at a chinese buffet yum yum complete with candlelit ambiance and a ballsy singer singing love songs. Soppy and blah and euw but spent with my best friend Ben I cast aside my 'I hate valentines' grudges.

Wednesday HELLO LIVERPOOL! I went for my journalism audition at Liverpool John Moore's university and I loooooved it. :-)

The coat! Pleas excuse this picture, it was soooo early in the morning eek!!!

I hope they offer me a place *pleaaaase*

- There would be a few raised eyebrows but no surprises if I were to stand on a rooftop and shout "I love the colour red" at the top of my voice. Not that I would, but figurativly speaking.
Double dare?
Although not my favourite colour (that's purple) I absolutley love all things red.

I have a soft spot for red hair as you know and aside from black, red is the only nail colour I feel truly glamourous wearing. My favourite red nail varnish is;

- OPI 'Big Apple Red'

I added a some OPI 'Sparke D' Trimomphe' tips :-)

In regards to lip colour, in my own opinion no other lip colour that advocates glamour and screams drama, passion and attention as much as a true, red lipstick does. A perfectly pouty red lip oozes Elizabeth Taylor / Dita von Tees'esc glamour and keeps the 1950's  'pin up girl' sophistication alive.

Minus the tooth blotches and pink chin patches where the red has bled and you have frantically tried to dab it off with a tissue only to end up with a big pink smudge, a red lip compliments all skin tones and hair colours. Although I am slightly bias towards the dark brunette hair, pale skin and red lip combo! It was my ban of the fake tan that really made me apreciate how beautiful a red lip is!

I always line my lips with a red lipliner to prevent the colour bleeding and to also outline a pouty cupids bow with precision. Instead of applying the lip colour from the bullet directly, I like to use this little

MAC brush to apply the colour evenly.

My favourite red lipstick. :)

- Rimmel 'Moisture Renew' in the shade 880 Rose Passion

What is your favourite colour to wear?

a quick catch up and
a primark haul

Last week I had a few extra pennies to play with on payday *Yipeee!* Although I had vowed to myself that I do not need any more clothing garments or makeup products or the usual purse burner…. handbags however, all of that went of the window when I had a pretty little outfit pictured in my head, and as a lot of girlies know - once you have an outfit in your head, you have to go out and buy it!
Although, last week I had a perfectly good reason to buy a new outfit so I think I only deserve half a slap on the back of the hand.

I was meeting somebody I have wanted to meet up with for absolutley ages.
 - Rachael is honestly the funniest, nicest person ever and although we had never met in person before, it felt like she was a lifelong friend through chatting on Facebook
and Twitter Rachael is a freelance beauty, fashion and lifetyle journalist so OBVIOUSLY she is the perfect person to help me figuire things out, she also studied her journalism degree at Leeds Trinity so again a great person for me to talk to in regards to the
"do I stay at home or do I live in halls?"
"should I stay in Leeds or go further away?" dilemmas!

We had a lovely night in Leeds having a good old gossip and a hefty glass of white wine at Toast followed by a scrumptious dinner at Piccolino. I had such a fabulous night and I hope Rachael and I meet up again soon!

Leopard print ladies [Rachael has a twitter page too if you would like to follow her @RachaelDivers]

- Soooo as you can see my pretty little outfit that I had in my head consisted of a leopard print shift dress I had seen in Primark.

…The first thing to fall into my Primarni basket.

[Leopard print shift dress with skinny patent black belt £10]

[The look I wore to meet Rachael in Leeds]

- I always find that shift dresses the most complimentary to my body shape. As I am not very top heavy and larger on the hips this style of dress singes me in at the waist to make me look as though I have a smaller waist and flows away from my large hips, making them look less prominant. I went for my usual red lip and bronze smokey eye combo. :-)

I knew that it was going to be a chilly night so I also picked up this little blazer.

[Soft fabric blazer £19]

- Rather than a below the waist, more tailored blazer I wanted one that appeared a little more cropped and smaller in size. I picked up the last of these blazers in a size 6. At first I thought there was no way it was going to fit me as I am usually a dress size 10. Alas, the fit of the blazer was really nice and gave me the cropped look that I wanted. I wore this over my shift dress and I think it looked lovely. I don't agree with the £19 price tag though, absolutley ridiculous for what it is. Hey ho, it is a staple piece that I know I will wear time and time again.

[Orange silk top with gold embellishment also comes in royal purple £5]

-I think that this top will look beautiful in the summer time with lovely sunkissed skin. I was tempted to buy the purple one also I may go back and purchase it if it is still in store on Saturday :). Both tops were reduced from £12 to £5

[Navy blue 'college apparel' zipper hoody £10]

- I really wanted an Abercrombie and Fitch hoody in this style but you know me, Miss budget queen I couldn't really justifying so much on a brand name. This little hoody is just as good for a fraction of the price and it has kept me nice and snug in this chilly weather.

[Red Gilet (yes ladies we all know it's a body warmer! ;) £10]

-Yes, I fell victim of the 'Jack Wills' gilet and hoody thing that everyone seems to be sporting. After putting it off for around two years I finally decided to try out the look - it is not really my personal style at all but due to the snow I decided to go 'rah' for a weekend. The gilet is really snug too and obviously a winner being bright red. ;)

I finally picked up a pair of grey joggers for simple lounging around in I was quite impressed that I managed to get my fat bum into a pair of size 8's although I must admit there isn't much room to breath out haha!

I hope you are all well and enjoying having a little breather post exams, I know I am!
Lots of love
