THE MAKEUP CHRONICLE: MY EVERYDAY MAKEUP FAVOURITES

EverydayMakeup #2

- At home I have a tower of draws filled with make-up.
Back in my make-up hoarding days I was obsessed with collecting make-up.
Looking back, there is no way I needed to buy the sheer amount of products that I own.
With this in mind, everytime I visit home I switch up my 'Everyday Essentials'.
I have been slowly using up various foundations in a bid to get rid of them
to buy more of my favourite foundation which include the controversial
Collection 2000 'Lasting Perfection'.

I travel from city, to city a fair bit so I am always looking to
rediscover some of my old favourites to try a new makeup look in a new city.

- I tote around my daily makeup favourites in this Harrods, patent wash bag.

It is the perfect length for storing my Urban Decay Naked Palette
and other bulkily packaged products, aswell as holding a whole host of goodies.
I can remember my boyfriend in the Harrods gift shop getting cross at the amount of time
that I was spending in there.
I won't forget him saying "You wouldn't buy one with Sainsbury's or Primark on it!"

BASE
Elizabeth Arden 'Eight hour cream' and Murad 'Skin perfecting primer'

FACE

Elizabth Arden 'Mineral Bronze'
W7 'Brow Bar' and Rimmel 'Dark Brown eyepencil'
Kryolon for Glossybox Blusher in 'Glossy Rosewood'

EYES

Inkwell 'WaterProof' Gel Liner
W7 'Double Up Mascara'
Fat Cat 'Volumizing Mascara'

LIPS

MAC - Girl About Town
MAC - Ruby Woo
Miners Cosmetics - Dreamer
Sleek - Coral Reef
Jelly Pong Pong  - Lip Crayon
MAC - Angel
Jason - Lips Bee Healthier Lipbalm

And there you have it, my everyday makeup favourites!

THE FASHION CHRONICLE: TWO WORK OUTFITS

What I Wore To Work

This weekend I started work in my new job.
Some of you may already know that I am working at the concept store Made In Leeds
in the new Trinity shopping centre in Leeds.
I have already had one of my amazing readers of this very blog pop in to say hello to me which was
so, so, so lovely.

The shop stocks everything from fashion garments, to art work to jewellery made and designed by people from the West Yorkshire region.
The shop itself is only tiny but it is rather quirky and cool.

I was unsure as to what I should wear for my first two shifts but I was told:
"To be myself"
And myself I was.

Moments before I headed to start work, I popped into a hairdressers and had a full fringe chopped in.
It was a spare of the moment decision but I am super happy with how it has turned out.

I am going through a bit of a strange patch of change at the moment so a new haircut was the perfect way to spice up my life so to speak.

What I wore on Saturday..

Leather look leggings: Primark
Boots: Primark
Yellow baroque blouse: Primark
Love heart print waterfall top: Primark

What I wore on Sunday..
Leather look leggings: Primark
Boots: Primark
Black, studded collar blouse: Zara
Embelished Waistcoat: Zara
Baroque print tank top: River Island

Due to Trinity not really having much of a roof on, I spent most of my shifts
wearing my fluffy, leopard print coat as it was so cold due to the cold snap and the snow!
If you live in Leeds, what do you think of the new shopping centre?
Love, Holl

THE SKINCARE CHRONICLE: THE BLEMISH BUSTING MISSION CONTINUES

Witch 'Blemish Stick'

Last weekend I headed to London to celebrate Dan and I being together a year.
*Awhhh*
It was one weekend that I wouldn't have minded my skin behaving.
Obviously, that was not the case and once again my forehead erupted.

At the Leeds Blogger Meetup I was very lucky to recieve a goody bag which contained all
kinds of beauty goodies.
Included in the bag was the

Witch
'Naturally Clear' Blemish Stick

I have seen the brand knocking around on the high street for some time now, but
before now I had never actively tried their skincare products.

As I was in somewhat of a rush hastily piling my belongings into my suitcase,
I threw in the blemish stick in a bid to help clear up my forehead.

I stayed in London for 4 days.
I applied the blemish stick to the affected areas twice a day for the whole weekend.
Within two days, my forehead nasties were gone!

Admitedly, I used the blemish stick alongside my usual cleansers
(you can read more about my everyday skincare routine in HERE and HERE)
but it was very effective at reducing redness, swelling and the soreness.

The solidified gel tingles when appled to the affected area from the plastic applicator.
It kind of resembles a push pop, with the push up and down applicator.
A downside that I would note is the fact there is no way to push back down the stick
without using your hand, which ofcourse unless your hand are super clean is not very effective for keeping bacteria off the stick.

The blemish stick contains Witch Hazel extract which is a strong anti oxidant and astringent which is very good for, if like me you have oily/combination or acne from skin as it contricts the size of body tissues.
The blemish stick helps to break down excess oils and fight the bacteria that causes spots.

I apply the blemish stick on any effected areas after cleansing and also around my nose where I have a lot of redness. - The blemish stick really helps reduce redness.

I must admit this product does have a very potent scent which does linger for a good while after application.
*sexy*
I tend to warm a little of the product with my fingertips and apply to my forehead every other night to help keep those peskies away.

By Saturday night when Dan and I went to an amazing Greek restaurant on the Southbank, my forehead was almost completely clear.
Spots 0 -1 Hollie.
Have you ever tried the blemish stick or any other Witch products?
Love, Holl

THE TANNING CHRONICLE: THE £1 TAN

Derma V10 Solkiss

- Derma V10 are a brand that I have featured countless times on Good Golly Miss Hollie
They are an extremeley affordable brand that can be purchased from Home Bargains and good old Bodycare.
They have created a range of beauty products from skincare products to haircare goodies
for beauty savvy girls like myself who want effective but affordable products that
can be repurchased time and time again without breaking the bank.

A few weeks ago at the LEEDS BLOGGER MEET UP I was very kindly treated to a bag of Derma V10 goodies,  all of which retail in shops for just £1.

I wrote recently IN THIS POST that I rarely maintained a fake tan these days.
This is parcially due to my loss of love for St Moriz which I found drying on the skin and
applied horribly.
As a student it is impossible for me to afford some of the higher end fake tans such as Sienna X and Xen Tan which
I know are effective at giving a natural, sunkissed tan without looking TOWIE orange.
Well, if it's good enough for K-Middy?

I was rather excited to be introduced to the
Derma V10  *Solkiss*
Natural Look Fake Tan Mousse
"Instant colour - No streaks - Quick drying - Blueberry fragrance"
"Derma V1O Solkiss natural look tanning mousse has been forumated to develop a natural looking, streak free tan. The tan will develop in 4-6 hours and will last 5-7 days.
For a deeper tan reapply in 3-5 days.
Solkiss is enriched with Aloe Vera to help keep the skin moisturised and enriched."

I was interested to trial this tan to see if it could rekindle my desire for a tanned complexion.
It reminded me of my favourite fake tan ever, that I can no longer find anywhere.
You can read about that very fake tan HERE.

To apply the tan I used the
Derma V10 *Solkiss*
3 in 1 self tan applicator mit
"For a streak free fake tan"

- I have always been a fan of tanning mitts, but I found over time that they split or simply stopped working effectively due to being saturated with tanning product.
I love that this one is super thick and extremley sturdy.
You are provided with rubber gloves to protect your hands from staining.
The mitt works in a 3 step process.
1) Use the white side to exfoliate the skin.
2) Apply the fake tan with the white side.
3) Afrer 20 minutes buff the skin using the brown cotton side side.

Application

I applied the tan which is a white mousse.
This is fantastic as it means that the tan develops on your skin and will not stain your p-jarmas
and bedsheets.
On first application the mousse goes a long way, one pump covering a large area of your body.
It smells deliciously of blueberries but upon development that old biscuity scent takes hold.
The tan is super quick drying and develops in just over an hour when the colour starts to develop.

I found that the product is so quick drying that the buffing process is not necessary, perhaps this would
be a more beneficial tool for lotion style fake tans.

Colour Result

The colour result was very subtle and natural.
There were no tide lines and the colour was so slight that it made me look healthy but took the edge of the stark whiteness of my natural skin tone.
I would recommend this to anybody who wants a very natural, light colour as opposed to the Barbados look.
It is perfect for people on the go and people with very pale complexions.
It is a brown, red toned tan that you are left with as a opposed to a green, olive toned tan.
For people with palet complexions such as me, the red toned tan is much closer to your natural tanning shade.
Flash Off:

 Flash On:

Fade
I found that the colour faded naturally after around 2 days of twice daily showers.
I would absolutely repurchase this tan and it has spurred me to take an interest in my fake tan routine once again.
Are you tempted?
Love, Holl

THE BLOGGER CHRONICLE: MARCH'S LEOPARD PRINT ADVERTISER

Introducing

Blonde Beauty Blogger

Hello lovely Good Golly Miss Hollie readers :)
For the next 30 days I have the pleasure of being Hollie's 'Leopard Print' advertiser and I would like to use this post to introduce myself a bit.

Over at www.blonde-beauty-blogger.com I blog about beauty, lifestyle and occasionally fashion! I have a massive issue with buying make-up and beauty products so what better way to justify this than by reviewing said products for all to see!

I started my blog last year, after having a Youtube channel for just over a year. I decided to make the jump from Youtube to Blogging because I started to feel quite self conscious making videos after more and more of my friends started finding my channel. It's still there, and I hope to go back to it one day but at the moment I am loving the blogging world!

I love the community that blogging has, and I have met some lovely girls through the events and meetups I have attended. The sense of togetherness and friendship is something you can't not feel when you begin blogging, and every single person I have met or spoken to since starting out has been amazing.

I have decided to write my post based around high street vs high end make up.

Now, like most of you out there, I do not have a tree at the end of my garden that grows money
 (pause for daydream).
So when a high street brand bring out a 'dupe' of a well known high end product, I jump at the chance to own it and review it on my blog!

Some of my favourites include:

Benefit Porefessional vs MUA Matte Perfection Primer
Clinique Chubby Sticks vs Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain
Urban Decay Naked Palette vs MUA Heaven AND Earth Palette
Nars Blush/Bronzer Duo vs ELF Contouring Blush AND Bronzer powder

If there are any others that you know of and can recommend please let me know!

All of the above are amazing dupes and offer the same great product for a fraction of the price.

There was a #bbloggers chat on Twitter not too long ago based around whether other Beauty Bloggers felt high end or high street offered better products. A lot of bloggers out there agreed that high street have grown so much over the past few years, that many don't feel the need to spend hundreds of pounds on expensive brands.

I for one, feel that, as a beauty blogger there is a small amount of pressure to constantly feature higher end brands on your blog to keep it 'current' and popular. However, after being involved in that #bbloggers chat it made me realise that a lot of girls feel the same, and that actually people are more interested in SAVING money than SPENDING ridiculous amounts.

So now, instead of saving up for that one cult product that everyone MUST have, I love to rummage around pound shops, Boots and Superdrug for cheaper alternatives and amazing finds.

I would love to know any dupes you have found, or how you feel about this topic in general.

It would be amazing if you guys would pop over to my little blog and let me know what you think. I love finding new ones so if you do visit, please comment and leave your own blog link and I will definitely check it out.

THE NAIL CHRONICLE: ESSIE 'JAM 'N' JELLY' DUPE POLISH

Alessandro 'Pink Melon'

- Since becoming obsessed with all things beauty, I have started to become one of those girls who try to spot product dupes.
I see budget beauty products time and time again 'duping' higher end products and truth be told, it kind of excites me a little bit.
I love finding replicar  products that retail at a much lower price than their
counterparts.

Last weekend, at the 2013 Leeds blogger meet-up I was lucky enough to recieve
a goody bag full of super products.
Included in my bag was this polish from Alessandro Nails

*Pink Melon*

A super gorgeous, sassy pink shade
and, what I deem a colour dupe for Essie's 'Jam 'n' Jelly

-Both polishes are blue toned, irredecent pink shades.
I also think that Pink Melon is very similar to 'Disco Biscuit' by Butter London, minus the blue sparkles!

Pink Melon applies to the nail beautifully with the wide brush, leaving your nails
opaque in colour with just one stroke!
I applied two coats of the polish for good measure, alongside a Sally Hanson 'Maximum Growth' bottom coat and a Venique top coat.
The drying time was super quick, perfect for impatient girls like me!

All hail barbie nails!
Perfect to get myself into a more cheery, summery mood!
If you a looking for a hot pink polish, within the same family of Jam 'n' Jelly and Disco Biscuit then this is your polish!
Love, Holl
xo

THE BEAUTY CHRONICLE: BIRCHBOX, MARCH 2013

Birchbox, The Role

Models Box

- A few months back in November I was very lucky to be invited to the Birchbox launch event which was held at The Soho hotel in London.
I was honoured to meet co founder of the Birchbox, Katia Beauchamp and find out a little bit more about her and the Birchbox concept.
I was informed that American Birchbox was to take over from Joliebox this year.

…And here it is.

The Role Models Box
" March brings Mother's Day and once we've thanked our mums, it's time to pause and apreciate all the other role models whose advice and life paths have helped shape us.
From an iconic British brand to a female found cult line, this month's box features hero products."

- I love the glossy magazine that is included inside the boxes, it is much more detailed
and feature-esc than the JolieMag was.
This months magazine is jam packed with beauty and lifestyle goodies.

Inside the box..

Laura Geller
Inkwell Waterproof Gel Liner

"This smooth long-wearing gel eyeliner comes with a handy brush that makes it super-easy to apply."
Full Size: £24.00
-I have never been a fan of liquid eyeliner, I often find that over the day it becomes overly dry and cracks, leaving me with panda eyes and flaky eyeliner.
I have been applying this to my inner tightline and waterline and have loved the longetivity of the product. It is a deep inky black that stays put and gives the eye some serious definiton.

Molton Brown
Valbonne Fragrence

"Valbonne combines notes of bergamot, dewy orange flower, rose, vetiver and leather for a sophisticated scent that will take you from day to night
Full Size: £65
- I do believe that this is a lovely scent, however it is not memorable. I
like memorable scent, I have opted to have this perfume in my handbag for daily touchups.

RMK
Cleansing Balm

"The rose scented balm echoes your mum or grandmother's cold cream as it melts in skin and becomes a silky liquid that removes even stubborn make-up with ease."
Full Size: £29
-Having tried this cleansing balm before I was impressed although I do think it is better
for mature skin as it doesn't contain the high power blemish and oil blitzing agents that my teenage skin needs to stay clear.

La Sultane De Saba
Body Lotion with Argan Oil

"Inspired by ancient beauty rituals of the Orient and Asia, La Sultane de Saba's body lotion with rich Argan Oil sinks into skin with ease, leaving a delicate scent."
Full Size: £26.50
-I am never very impressed with body lotion samples, I am over run with them currently but I do enjoy the scent and texture of this moisturiser.
It is luxurious smelling and with it being only a small canister I can easily use it up in one application.

Yu-Be
Moisturising Skin Cream

"Don't let the primrose colour fool you  - this multi purpose medicated moisturiser is made of tough stuff. A best seller in Japan sine 1957, the comforting camphor scene magically disappears abour a minute after application."
Full Size: £19.50
- I love his product, recently my knuckles have been very sore and cracked due to the cold weather. One application of this product and my hands were feeling much smoother.

Beauty extra included in the box…
Sanctuary
30 Day Theram Transformation Mask
"A two step Peptide Transformation Serum and Thermal Rose Clay Mask."
Full Size: £27.50
- I am donating this product to my mum to try as I feel it would be less beneficial to
younger skin.

Lifestyle extra included in the box…
Lindt
Lindor Heart Tin Filled With Chocolate Truffles
Full Size: £2.99
-My Favourite choccies.
There were four included in the charming, little tin.
Two of which I did share with my mum and dad. :)

- This was a nice little box, there are however no products that wow me and I can see the clear similarity between the Joliebox.
I am hoping that Birchbox introduce us beauty fanatics to more products from over the pond and internationally.
What do you think of Birchbox popping up in the UK?
Love, Holl

THE FASHION CHRONICLE: THE #TRENDSTUDIOLIVERPOOL

The Warehouse

TrendStudioLiverpool

- Last night I headed to the rather kooky Camp and Furnace in Liverpool, which as an event venue is the most fun place you could ever visit.
The converted warehouse is decked out in bunting, fairy lights, 1960's caravans and beer garden benches!
I was invited to the #TrendStudioLiverpool which was an event hosted by the upmarket, high street
retailer Warehouse.

The evening was filled with Prosecco, scrumpcious canapays and fashion.

I met Reem Kanji, the co writer of the coverted blog 'Five Five Fabulous.'
She talked us through the upcoming trends and collections coming from Warehouse this season.

The collection was previewed by the gorgeous models.
I shall let the pictures do the talking...

Illamasqua makeup were also at the event to showcase their 'speckled eye' makeup and the 'statement lip. I opted for a bright pink statement lip, I chose the colour Eurydice
A bright, hot pink lip.
My favourite

I met the gorgeous fashion editors from the Liverpool Tab Georgie and Rebeccea, as well The Style Rawr and fashion student Shaj.
I had a fabulous night and it was great to see a brand coming to Liverpool to share the fun!

Upon every beer garden bench there was a goody bag!
Inside the goody bag…

Warehouse Socks

- How cute are these socks, so up my street in prints of leopard and zebra.
I can't wait to keep my tootsies warm with some lovely leopard print.

Label M
Hairspray
-I love this cute little cansister of hairspray perfect for my handbag when I am on the go!

Andrea Fukerton
Nail Boutique 'Flip Flop French

I love these duo polish nail polishes in a hot, classic red and a sparkly pink.

The Warehouse pieces were typical of their style, long flowing dresses and high necklines.
I am a fan of that style myself as I feel they balance my top and bottom half out nicely.
I had such a fun night and it was fabulous to be apart of it!
What do you think of Warehouse as a brand?
Love, Holl
