THE BLOGGING CHRONICLE: LOOKING BACK ON MAY

hot from May

The month of May seems to have passed me by in the blink of an eye and without any terribly exciting things happening!
My job at the 'Made in Leeds' pop up store has now drawn to a close and I am excited to see what new prospects are on the horizon for the remainder of my 'summer' break.
I was always scared of having no purpose in my life, a long stretch of time in front of me with not much to fill it however, this summer I am living on the side of spontaneity.
Editors Note*

Each month I look back over each post and pick out my favourite posts, I also throw a cheeky post in from the archives for your amusement.

1.
- Having discovered a gorgeous eye shadow in my makeup collection that belonged to my nana I decided to recreate her favourite eye makeup look and mould it into a very wearable everyday eye.
After spending the afternoon in a Vogue magazine archive I noted that my new eye makeup look is very similar to the eye makeup of the Vogue cover stars of the 1960's.

2.
- With my first independent holiday on the horizon I hit the high street for some summer garments laced in bright colours and loud print.

3.
- My bedroom is ever evolving into a cute and comfortable space for me to live in
I updated my original 'Bedroom tour' with a new, fresh TAG.

From May 2012

-June already promises to hold some exciting adventures the first kicking off on Saturday!
This month I am also headed to Turkey, spending time in London and finally I will be rid of my long distance relationship (for now).
I am also very excited to introduce you all to my leopard print sponsor for June.

ED *Sadly just after writing this post.. My beautiful cat of seven years, Button had to be put to sleep.
I have never felt so heartbroken in my entire life and I genuinely feel so very gutted.
I miss her so much already.
She was the most loving cat and if you have followed me for a while you'll know how much I loved her too.
I'd just like to dedicate this post to Button who for seven years was the best cat in the entire world.

THE BEAUTY CHRONICLE: LIP PLUMPING

City Lips

- A few weeks ago my lovely aunt in America informed me about a lip product that she had discovered.
City Lips

As somebody who was born without the fullest lips and I hardly sport the Angelina Jolie lip looks
so any help in a little plumping for the perfect pout is welcome.

City Lips which is not tested on animals is a product of citycosmetics.com which aims to plump the lip by an average of 3 millimeters.

The product is a potent Collagen Building Treatment that uses Oligopeptide Technology and Hyaluronic Acid to visably increase lip size safely and painlessly by enhancing Collagen and lip plumping factors.

The packaging encourges you to apply the product to clean lips before bed so that the treatment can absorb whilst you sleep, I also have applied the product to my lips before applying my favourite pop of lip colour ala my go to hot pink MAC 'Girl About Town' and my classic red MAC 'Ruby Woo'.

The product feels luxurious in a solid, metal tube complete with a soft doe foot applicator.

I applied the product to my lips, after a few moments a numbing sensation appeared followed by a very, very subtle tingling, although this feeling is not uncomfortable.

Before Applying 'City Lips'

After Applying 'City Lips

As you can see my lips are visably fuller which is amazing, they also feel considerably fuller.
The product does not leave you with a nettle stinging sensation.
It also looks nice for the daytime as a clear gloss which is ultra hydrating.
My lips stayed plump for around three hours, including a few brews consumed throughout the afternoon.
It is now a firm staple product in my everyday makeup bag.
From believing lip plumping was a fad..I am not truly converted.
A huge thankyou to my aunt for introducing me to this little gem.

THE SHOPPING CHRONICLE: MINI PRIMARK HAUL

Bits and bobs

- My Monday dinner break consisted of an hour in Primark.
I wondered up and down the levels with about a million items in my basket
and came away with three things.

Whether it be the summer season or deep into winter, I am consistent with my love
of the summer boho style and festival look.

I picked up a few pieces to create an outfit.

6 Rings Mix
£2.50

- I love these dainty little rings my favourites being the eye, the triangle and the star.
They are a mix of faux gold and silver and I think they will tarnish nicely to look more vintage-esc.
I also picked up this triangle ring, the aztec print embellished onto the brass.

Nature Inspired Head Piece
£3.00

- I am in love with these festival style head pieces, this one is beautiful with dusky roses and butterflies.
I really love wearing it with my hair in a messy bun.
It adds a sprinkle of summer to any outfit and instantly lifts my mood.
I am definately headed back to Primark soon to pick up some more, there is a beautiful daisy chain piece that interests me.

Tie Dye Bandeau dress
£13.00

- I picked this up on a complete whim, I purchased a size 10 which could have done to be a size 8 really with elasticaed top, but neverthless it fits nicely.
I love the colours and print on this dress and I can't wait to wear it on holiday.
It doesn't trail on the floor and comes complete with a lovely plaited, brown belt to singe the waist in.
I pair mine with my denim, crop jacket.

I also headed for a cheeky browse in TK MAXX where I found this beautiful nighty..

I love the beauty product print..as someone obsessed with perfume and nail polish it was perfect for me and a steal at £9.99

How do you dress to feel more summery?

THE FASHION CHRONICLE: THOSE CHINO'S

Jazzy Trousers

- After the age of 13, I went off wearing jeans, very rarely do I wear jeans and although I am a trouser kind of girl I tend to stick to patterned leggings, jeggings or leather look leggings.

I have been lusting after patterned pants for a long time now
so when I came across a compromise last week in Matalan,
I was a very happy shopper.

The patterned chino.
£10 - Matalan

I love the chino material, it makes me feel as though I am wearing a smart fitted trouser
but with a bit of jazz.
The best of both worlds.
They are comfortable and take me from dressy day to dressy night perfectly.
I love the navy and white two tone colour, they remind of the blue and white china plates I collect after a spree in Portobello Market.

What do you think?
A fun alternative to leggings and jeans?

THE LIFESTYLE CHRONICLE: INSIDE MY BEDROOM

Four Corners

- A long time ago, I wrote a post that showed you inside my room. You can find that post HERE if you wanted to have a look.
Whilst the wall colours are the same, In the past year I have been tweaking my room bit by bit, taking things away, adding them, making things better, in some cases making things worse, but for the most part I love my room.
It is small, cosy and personal to me.

Instead of conducing an entire room tour in pictures, I decided to
show you my four favourite area's.
If you decide to write a similar post featuring your room, link it to me in the comment section below.
I love to see how other people decorate their rooms.

The inspiration behind my room has always been the same in the four or five years it has been decorated this way, I love the idea of creating a vintage boudoir.
Miss match accessories and jewel toned colours.

My room is not big enough to fit a french dressing table, something that I would have loved
so I have compromised with my own little 'area'.

My kimono is from River Island

I have a set of black 'croc effect' drawers which are from Laurence Llewelyn Bowen at Matalan I store
products to review in the top draw, all of my 'face' makeup, for example primers, foundations, concealers, moisturisers etc and in the third draw I keep eye products, eyeliners, mascara's, palettes and lip products, lip crayons, lipsticks, glosses etc.
Finally, the bottom draw is full to bursting with nail polish and nailcare accessories.

On top of my black drawers is a vintage Audrey Hepburn chest, in here I keep my more expensive jewellery pieces safe.
My everyday costume jewellery lives on top of the chest on my jewellery tree that my friend Sara kindly gave me.
Next to my jewellery tree I have a victorian mannequin wearing a purple ball gown, I hang all of my necklaces and beads on here.
To the left of these pieces I have a gold, ornate frame with a picture of Dan and I in Picadilly Circus.

The two cups I have house my makeup brushes.
The Audrey Hepburn one contains all of the brushes I don't use on a regular basis and the blue and white cup from TK MAXX holds all of my everyday essential brushes.

My teacup shelf is the newest addition to my room and is very special to me, on here I have the (Peal Lowe for Glossybox box), a picture of my favourite painting The Kiss by Gustav Klimnt and a collage that I made.
My blue early 1920's  plates are from Porobello Market, the pink and white teacup with two saucers is from Camden Market, the holly print teacup was a gift from my parents when they visited Howarth, the teacup and saucer with the rose and dragonfly print was a birthday gift from my boyfriend, it is from Fortnum and Mason, the tiny, duck egg blue teacup was a Christmas present from my boyfriends family and that is from Cath Kidston and finally the blue and white cup was given to me by my friend Sara.

My bedside table is from Ikea, on here I have a cream photo frame from TK MAXX and a glass candle holder with a vanilla scented candle inside.
My lamp is from B&Q, I added the pink pom pom myself.
I have an Audrey Hepburn coaster and a few of my favourite books, the first is 'Style Me Vintage - Tea Parties' the second is Christian Lacrox Sleeping Beauty Illustration book  and the third book is my favourite novel of all time The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald this is actually an original Penguin editon.

And there we have it.
The four corners of my room.

THE NAIL CHRONICLE: 2 SHIMMERY POLISHES

PrettyPastels

- Every week I have a good old rummage through my nail polish drawer..
Which currently looks a little something like this.

and I choose 2 colours for the week.
One for my toes and one for my fingernails.

I have been trying to stay clear of my favourite shades that I wear time and time again
in a bid to wear my more neglected shades more often.

This week I went for:

Revlon
Blue Lagoon
- I bought this polish on a whim last summer and have barely touched it since.
I'm not really a blue kind of gal but I love the sky blue hue and tiny flecks of lilac in this polish.
Revlon nail polishes are really nice quality also, chip resistant for up to four days and slick to apply to the nail.
Seeing as though we have been seeing a wee bit of blue in the sky lately, I thought why not

and

Gallery Colours (available at Xtra's)
354 Lilac Shimmer
- I always pick up cheapy polishes, wear them once and never touch them again.
In the instance of Lilac Shimmer I always reach for it when my lilac urges take hold.
It applies smoothly and for a mere £1 it last for 3 days without chipping and no top coat.
I have a few polishes from Gallery Colours and have always been impressed with the colour consistency and the price!

I opted for pastels this week…
What nail colour have you been loving this week?

THE MAKEUP CHRONICLE: MAYKE-UP

The Makeup Bag

- Since moving back home last month I have had a serious shake up in the beauty and makeup department.
My everyday makeup favourites are now nicely reunited with their pals that didn't quite make the move and my makeup storage is blossoming.
In the occasion of a clear out, I decided to switch up some of the contents in my makeup bag for May.
Whilst my face products have stayed practically the same,
(You can read my most recent 'Everyday Makeup' post HERE)
I have had a little move around in the eye makeup department as I was growing a little bored of my routine application of shadows from the Urban Decay 'Naked Palette.
A few weeks ago I spent my day in an archaive.
I discovered lots of old Vogue magazine's

I was really drawn to the makeup featured in the 1960's Vogues.
A strong, bold eye made up of super black liner and green eyeshadow.

Something about this whole look interested me so it was time to whip out the perfect products to create a 1960's inspired eye.

To begin I prime my eyelids with the Urban Decay Primer Potion I then take a light touch of some vintage eyeshadow that belonged to my Nana, a lady who back in the day was never seen without her striking 1960's green eye.
The colour is' Polished Teal' by Yardley London, it is a beautiful muted, matte turquoise shade that I apply all over my eyelid.

To enhance my ill defined eye socket I contour using MAC 'Green Smoke' shado, the shade complements the lid colour beautifully.

I then line my outereye with an emerald green Eyeko eyeliner and use the Laura Geller waterproof gel liner to add character to my tightline and waterline.
To complete the colour combination I pat a little L'Oreal 'Chrome Shine' in 'Dazzling Khaki' in the inner to middle portion of my eyelid.

This shade is actually a near as damn it dupe for MAC 'Green Smoke'.
To finish I apply lashings of the L'Oreal Double Extend mascara to my upper and lower lashes, the more the better.

I am currently really happy with this eye makeup routine and I am pretty sure that it
will be sticking around for June also!
What do you think?

THE JEWELLERY CHRONICLE: BRACELETS

Wrist Candy

- The jewellery pieces that adorn my wrists on a daily basis are a multitude of mis matching bangles, beaded bracelets and the odd vintage piece.
I like to wear a lot of jewellery, a preference that undoubtedly inherited from my Nana.
Whether it be oversized cocktail rings a number of necklaces or a stack of bangles
I like to wear in the masses.

On my left wrist I am not usually seen without my
silver Pandora bracelet I often wear it plain without the beads but sometimes I pop them back on.
I have two official Pandora beads, both Murano glass and then two more that I picked up on holiday in Zakynthos one summer.

I stack the most bracelets on my left wrist as it is not my writing hand and the beads don't tend to
smash against surfaces as much.
I also wear my watch on my left wrist.
I loved my Aldo  oversized, rose gold time piece that is a copy of the Michael Kors style
watches but sadly it fell apart after wearing it for less than a year.
These days I wear a much more subtle, bracelet watch that my Grandma gave me,
it is made by Sekonda, it is a really beautiful and elegant watch.

I stack this with my cool toned Rose Mae beaded bracelets.
You can read more about these HERE.

I also wear my bronze Links of London bracelet, sadly most of the charms have fallen off and a similar style silve bracelet that was given as a present to me when I left my first job.

I then wear a black beaded bracelet with a silver buddha head trinket, a row of Turkish eyes and my blue and white beaded and silver bracelet that I recieved as a gift from Amsterdam.
More recently I have been wearing this tortoise shell bracelet that my Grandma gave me as the elastic in my blue and white bracelet is starting to sag.

On my right wrist I wear more summery toned bracelets,
my purple, rose gold, and pink Rose Mae bracelets.
I have also been loving my new Ebony and Jade fluro bracelet as it is just perfect for summer time!
It has a tiny gold skull trinket attached and is super light weight.
You can see more from Ebony and Jade by browsing their website HERE
or following them on Twitter HERE.

What do you wear on your wrists?
Do you enjoy bracelets in the masses or the bare minimum?

THE FASHION CHRONICLE: MY STREET STYLE 'LOOK BOOK'

Style Wars In Leeds

A few Saturday's ago I took to the streets of Leeds to have myself a go at
Street Style Snapping.
I see many fashion magazines doing this kind of thing so I figured it would be a nice little feature
for this blog.
As you know I am indeed one third fashion here on Good Golly Miss Hollie
so why the heck not.
I was Street Style Shooting for The City Talking, the full piece can be found HERE

Here is my pick of the bunch from last weekend.
I  also asked some of my street stylee's to sum up what they thought Leeds stylewas in one word.

What do you think of street style?
Do you use it for fashion inspiration?
Which outfit was your favourite?
Love, Holl

THE MAKEUP CHRONICLE: THE CLASH

Pink And Orange

- Nothing screams summer to me more than bright hues of orange and pink.
Although they are clashing colours, I absolutely love the combination.
This week I have been sporting pink and orange more than ever.
I have been switching between wearing orange nails and pink lips.
Here are my picks of the clashing duo.

Barry M
Coral

- Whenever the sunshine peeks through, I reach for a coral hue of nail polish.
I think this is a lovely colour to wear on your toes with pretty sandals and flip flops.
It is a pink toned orange which complements all skin colours.

Sinful Colours
23

- This nail polish is one of my absolute favourites.
I love the hot pink hue and the staying power of this beauty is amazing.
It lasts at least a week on the nails without chipping.
I picked my Sinful Colour shade up at my local Poundworld and whenever I pop in
I have a root around for another.

Sleek 'Sheen'
772 Coral Reef

- This lippy is by far my summertime favourite.
It applies glossy and does not dry out the lips at all.
It has a good durability and stays put for around 4-5 hours without a touch up or a
splashing of Lipcoate.
It is a beautiful colour to wear in the daytime and throughout the evening.
A real pick me up.

Jelly Pong Pong
 'Lip Blush'
- I love the sheer and light feeling when wearing the Jelly Pong Pong, pop of pink
on my lips.
It is a lovely punchy pink that requires no effort to wear.

- You may have seen on my Instagram @goodgollymisshollie I have been
snapping rather a lot of pictures of my orange bag.
I have been reaching for this more and more as the sun continues to shine in the UK.
Now..for a Tequila Sunrise!

THE FASHION CHRONICLE: MY HOLIDAY FASHION FAVOURITES

In my Suitcase #1

- In less than 10 weeks I shall be embarking on my first independent holiday.
When I say independent I mean a holiday for Dan and myself.
We are going to Olu Deniz in Turkey!
*If anybody reading has been there, do let me know what you think*

It is safe to the say that I am bloomin' excited!
Lots of sunshine, sparkly blue sea, sandy beaches and a coconutty cocktail will do nicely.

With the holiday spirit within me, I thought that I would write up a
Holiday Haul post.
I have bought a fair few bits and bobs as I haven't been on holiday for a few years so this post will be split into two.

The Beach Bag
TK Maxx

- I loved the bright, contrasting colours on this beach bag.
It is the perfect size for all of our beach essentials and looks chic aside
a brightly coloured kaftan.

The Shorts
Both, Primark

- I wanted to stray away from the typical denim short and whilst scouring the Liverpool Primark a few months ago I came across a red pair of shorts hanging from the clearance rail.
I love the studs, frayed edges and shades of burnt orange and maroon that make up these lovely shorts.
They have a cute detail along the side hems also.
A refreshing change from popular blue short.

- As a lover of all things aztec print, I tossed this pair of cotton shorts into my basket straight away.
They are super light and comfy and perfect for walks down to the beach.

The Shoes
Both, Primark

- I fell in love with these beaded, turqouise sandals as soon as I saw them,
they are perfect for the evenings when I want to switch up from my beach flip flops to something a little more glamorous.

- I bought these black jellies, one afternoon when some old sandals I was wearing fell from together.
The beach we are going to has some shale on it so these will be perfect for wearing whilst playing in the sea.
They are a lightweight, jelly gladiator sandal.

The Bikini
Primark

- I went a little bikini crazy and bought a fair few, this one has to be by far my favourite though.
I have super pale skin so a brightly coloured and patterned bikini looks perfect against my Casper hue.

The Summer dresses
1. Zara and 2. Band of Gypsies

-1. I bought this beautiful silky dress on a whim a few weeks ago, I wanted something light and glamorous for on a night time.
As this dress is so versatile it could also be worn on the beach too.
It is a strange affair, with dipped hems at both the front and back and a random pattern placed sporadically on the material.

-2. I was attracted to the beautiful colour of this summer dress, it is also light and cool to wear, the colours will look beauiful against the Turkish landscape of greenery against the deep, blue water of the Turquoise coast.

The Pjay's
Primark

- I really wanted a cute pair of bright and light pjay's to take away with me.
I fell in love with the colour tones in this pair from Primark.
The little shorts are the cutest with scalloped edges and a floral pattern, I suspect that the lime green top will stand out with a lovely tan!

And that is all for my holiday haul part 1!
Keep your eyes peeled for part 2 soon!
What holiday goodies are you taking away?
Love, Holl
xo
