THE BLOGGING CHRONICLE: LOOKING BACK ON JUNE

hot from June

- June has flown by like the blink of an eye and gave us all a tiny taste of summertime.
As you read through this very post I shall be sipping a cocktail in a super hot place, something that last month felt like an eternity away!
As you may know, I lost my lovely cat Button at the end of May and this month I have been finding my feet again without her, it has been very sad and I have felt gutted but I am starting to feel like myself again.
Also in June I started a new a job in high end menswear which has been a huge learning curve but very enjoyable never the less.
I headed to London a fair bit for Dan's end of year ball and we road tripped it down south to help him move out of his old flat.
He also finished university at the end of this month and for a little while, I am no longer
in a long distance relationship and it feels great.

*******

Each month I look back over each post and pick out my favourites, I also throw in a cheeky post from the archives for your amusement.

1.
The pills I took to make my hair grow
- I road tested some hair growth pills to see if they really made a difference to the quality and length of my hair, I was most interested in how they could helo reduce my dramatic daily hair loss.

2.
How I transformed my hair back to a roaring red shade in one day
- My hair was a mix of copper, dark purple and red tones and had started to look straggly, inlight of the month of June I swept aside the full fringe and went back to my roots with a raging red hair colour.

3.
How I make my eye lashes look enormously fluttery, volumised and long without false lashes
- C'mon girls we all love a beautifully lengthened, volumised and glamourous set of peepers really…Find out the how I got the perfect lashes with the help of two drugstore mascara's.

From June 2012

THE LIFESTYLE CHRONICLE: BON VOYAGE!

BRB, Sunshine Calling!

(Hopefully it looks as beautiful in real life - photo taken from Google Images)

**Whilst I am away there will be NEW POSTS publishing every other day as normal here on
Good Golly Miss Hollie so make sure you keep checking back to avoid missing anything juicy!**

- I haven't been on holiday over seas for about three or four years and last summer I promised myself that in 2013 I would work super duper hard and save up all the pennies that I could so that when summer finally came around I would be able to enjoy laying under the blazing hot sunshine and swimming in the sparkly ocean.

Well, over the course of the year I have worked my butt off and managed to fulfill the little promise I made to myself.

Thanks to my mum and dad I have always been very lucky to be able to have a summer holiday almost every year since I was around seven
but as I got older my parents wanted to do their thing and I wanted to do mine.

As you are reading this I will have headed off on an adventure with Dan on our first holiday together.

I love seeing holiday posts on blogs and being a total nosey parker at what people are packing in their suitcases fashion and beauty wise.

And seeing as though this time I am going away myself, I thought that I would give you a sneaky peek into my holiday shenanagins.

So, where do we begin?
I started out with THIS POST which was some of my holiday haul pieces
and since then I have added extra bits and bobs!

Bikini's shorts, coloured kaftans and sun dresses galore.

Hat, TK Maxx £5.99
(Taken from my Instagram: @goodgollymisshollie)

Next up it's night wear!
I have a brightly coloured, floral shorts from Primark and a little night dress from TK Maxx

My 'night time clothes' - this year I have gone for maxi dresses and embellished tops mostly as I like to mix and match from day to night.
For shoes I have one pair of embelllished sandals, a pair of fringed sandals, some super bright flip-flops and a pair of jellies for the shale beaches.

My style is quite bohemian so I think I will fit right in amongst the coloured, spicy bazzaars.

Finally, I add in beauty products, toiletries and suncare products.

And lastly… I throw in my beach towel, a good book and my woven beach basket!

I love this cute hold all from  Primark.

It is super spacious and big enough to carry
(THIS), my second book which is called The Jewel Box and other bits and pieces for in the airport and to keep me amused whilst on the plane!
Beauty wise I am taking some PauPau balm which is excellent at healing and hydrating and some beauty oil for keeping my hands and face hydrated.

To travel in I think that I shall throw on this ensemble of turquoise.

As we are travelling through the night time I want to be warm enough for hanging around the airport and whilst on the plane but cool enough for when I step off the plane into 26 degree's of night time air.

Trousers - Primark
Waistcoat - Zara
Cardigan - Zara
Sandals - Primark
Vest Top  - New Look

Now before I go I would just like to write a little ode to somebody I like to call
The Mamma of Youtube!
Her name is Zoe, a.k.a @MammafulZo.
I first started watching Youtube video's for the information and guidence that they gave me.
I really enjoy chatty video's with loads of info and fun packed into them and I enjoy watching a lovely, genuine person even more.
When I discovered that there was somebody making my favourite kind of Youtube video's
I just had to let you all know about the lady behind them.
A few months ago I discovered Zoe's Youtube channel after finding it through her
amazing daughter Cole.
Cole is somebody that I have watched religiously on Youtube for years as she makes the most imformative make-up video's that you will ever watch, I tell you now she puts most 'guru's' to shame with her knowledge and her personality is just so fun to watch.
Her mum also makes video's and writes a blog too and I urge you to go and take a look as Zoe's video's are honest, no frills and they make you feel like you are round at her house having a cuppa with her.
Both Zoe and Cole have tackled some very serious topics and Zoe's video's are open, honest and real.
She also replies to every comment that she recieves and really puts her subscribers first.
She is old school, what Youtube used to be before the commercialisation took over.
Pop on over and say hi to Zoe for me.
I'll miss her whilst i'm away!

See you all soon!

THE SKINCARE CHRONICLE: SEAWEED AND TEATREE

Skincare By

The Bodyshop

- Last weekend my skin went crazy for no good reason at all.
Without warning I woke up with ridiculously dry, sore and itchy skin on my chin
and a huge patch of really sore, bruise like spots.
As you can imagine it was not what was needed for a busy trip to London to help my chap move out of his old flat.

I am indeed a girl with oily/combination skin and never in my life have I had
dry skin.

Within a few days I managed to bring my skin back to life a little bit but I inspired to splash out on
 a complete skincare overhaul.
Out with the old and in with a new routine!

I consulted the Bodyshop for a little bit of help as their
Seaweed 'Mattifying Day Cream'
was the saviour of the day when my chin went bazerk.
The Bodyshop products are quality and without the ridiculous price tag so I can keep replacing the products without burning a hole in my purse.

I headed in store for a complete consultation and in the hope of coming away with
a full bag of products for a new skincare routine.

And...

That is exactly what I got.

Lurking around in my BIBA purse was an old gift card from the Bodyshop with
£15 left on it.
Excellent

I was advised that the 'Tea Tree' range would probably be too strong even for my blemish prone skin as  I was informed that my skin has probably gone into overdrive from a particulaly harsh toner that I had been using daily.
Having already tried an excellent product from the
Seaweed range, my new routine comes from that line.

The Seaweed range helps rebalance sebum and gives the skin a matte finish.
No more shiny oil slick here!

1.
Seaweed
'Deep Cleansing Facial Wash'
Combination/Oily Skin
£8.00

- I love the gel formula that really lathers up to give your face a throroughly clean and leaving your skin with a fresh feeling.
Within one use I knew that I was using a cleanser that was not going to irritate my skin but was also going to cleanse and blitz away those pesky blemishes.

2.
Seaweed
'Clarifying Toner'
Combination/Oily Skin
£8.00

- I started trying the toner a little after my sore, dry skin had become less irritated as I felt even the most gentle toner would irritate my already unhappy skin.
When I did finally use the toner on a soft cotton pad, I was thoroughly impressed with the gentle nature of it, my skin did not feel stripped instead my complexion was brighter and my skin a was a happy chappy.

3.
Tea Tree Oil
£7.00

- I apply the Tea Tree Oil to any blemishes I have using a cotton pad, the scent of this product is very over powering and it does sting a little when applied to the spot.
My spots cleared within three to four uses of the oil.
I have also dabbed some of the product on to any areas that feel bruised
(Prime symptom of a spot appearing!)

I have also been continuting the use my Mattifying Day Cream
first thing on a morning.

I have been using these products every night to take off my makeup and cleanse my face
and already my skin is relaxing and returning to a more normal state.
I feel more confident in my skincare routine knowing that each product has its own job!

THE BEAUTY CHRONICLE: NAILS BY L'OREAL

 Color Riche Polishes

- A few Saturday's ago I arrived home from work to find my mum rather excited to inform me that a big box had arrived via the postman.
Apparently old posty had told my mum that it was a super heavy box and I was to be careful.
Ofcourse, he was joking as the box was the lightest thing that I have ever picked up.
It felt like it had nothing at all inside and I was extremley confused.

To my surprise when I ripped off the tape that was sealing up my mystery item
a beautiful balloon containing lots of pastel coloured paper rose to the air!

It was a gift from L'Oreal.
The balloon was a lovely marketing touch that was created by
Bubblegum Balloons.
The creatives behind them are three mums who create and sell the most gorgeous balloons that you will ever see!
(You kind find their Twitter page HERE)

L'Oreal sent me four of their super summery 'Color Riche' nail polishes, all of the shades
correlating with the coloured paper inside my balloon!

I was super lucky to recieve:

833 Wasabi Hint

824 Banana Pop

828 Flashing Lilac

827 Acid Watermelon

The polishes are all stunning pastel shades that are perfect for adding a pop of summertime to your nails.
My favourite has to be 824 'Banana Pop'

This is an usual choice of colour for me to wear.
I often find these kinds of colours wishy washy and difficult to build in opacity however, the
Color Riche shades build are opaque in one coat!
The polishes also dry in super quick time which is good for girls on the go like myself!
My only critisism would be that upon application the polish can streak a little on certain nails which calls for an extra layer to be applied.

L'Oreal aren't usually my first choice of go to polishes but I am rather impressed with
the colour pay off, drying time and opacity.
You can pick up the Color Riche nail polishes from Boots
or online HERE for a super affordable £4.99.

What do you think?
Have you ever tried L'Oreal Color Riche polishes?

THE MAKEUP CHRONICLE: 2 EXCELLENT MASCARA'S

Bat for Lashes

- A few days ago I shared a post that had a peek inside the June Glossybox.
Within the Glossybox I recieved a mascara that has worked so effectively for me that it deserves a full review.
It was sods law that I went out and bought a new mascara from Superdrug a few days prior to my Glossybox arriving and I love the effectiveness of that one also.

Combined, these two mascara's cause extreme explosions.
It is like they were just meant to be paired together..

L - GOSH   R - NYC

I purchased the Sky Rise mascara from NYC in Superdrug for a bargainous £2.99.
It is intended to lengthen the lashes without causing clumps.
The brush is a bristley affair that really travels effortlessly along the lashes from root to tip, seperating them and creating definition.

NYC 'Sky Rise' on the lashes alone.

Secondly I head on in with GOSH Growth Mascara
The mascara contains SymPeptide Xlash, a growth activator.
The special rubber brush gives length and volume to the lashes, while small rubber 'hairs' seperate the lashes and a bulk reservoir .
*Perfume and Paraben free.

GOSH 'Growth Mascara on the lashes alone.

Both mascara's used on the lashes.

And vola!
Do you tend to use more than one mascara?

THE MAKEUP CHRONICLE: 5 LUSH LIPPY'S

Luscious Lips

- A few weeks ago when I started work in a new job I did not feel very confident.
Working in high end menswear was a whole different ball park to the indpendant pop up store I was used to.
In a bid to boost my confidence I opted to wear a different colour lippy for every shift to try and generate some positivity, it sounds like madness but believe me it really worked!

Here are my top confidence booster lippy's!

On my first shift I went a little 1920's with
'No Competition' by Benefit
The shade is a deep red toned purple that applies super slick like a gloss gives a medium colour coverage.
The lipstick itself is unbelievably moisturising and with a touch of Lipcoate on top
stays put for a good eight hours.
I like the vampy nature of this shade which is apart of the Full-Finish line that retails at £14.00.

Having had an agreement with myself that I liked the way purple lippy looked on me, I opted for a different shade within the purple colour family.
Dreamer by Miners Cosmetics is a lilac purple with a frost finish, again it is super comfortable to wear and applies like a gloss.
I love the subtle irredecence to this shade that sparkles under the shop lights.

Although it may be seen as season inapropriate I am currently really taken with 'vampy' lip shades.
I have been wearing this deep burgandy shade called Red by Lanvin for Handm
The lipstick is a little drying but that is nothing a good old lip balm can't sort out!
I think this shade gives a different spin on a typical red lippy.

Rimmel lipsticks were the first that I ever dabbled in when I was around 14 so it was no surprise to me that this Rimmel Moisture Renew lipstick in the shade Rose Passion
caught my eye.
It is a much softer red than the above.
It is ultra moisturising and the colour pigmentation is intense.

And ofcourse no confidence boosting lipstick post would be complete without
MAC 'Girl About Town'
- You know my opinion…

Does bright lipstick channel your confidence?

THE FASHION CHRONICLE: A MINI PRIMARK HAUL

Bargain Haulin'

- I simply cannot visit Primark with buying something, it is ridiculous but that shop should ban me.
With the clothing, accessories and homewares so affordable it so easy to find on trend items and pick them up for a bargain.

After my shoes ripped my feet to shreds on the way to work I headed into the
store of dreams for some new shoes…and ended up coming out with a few extra bits and pieces.

- I have been after some dungaree's for a while now, I have been picking up the denim ones and then walking away without buying them..
This time I was brave and opted for this red and white stripped dungaree for £14.00
I thought it was perfect for wearing in the summer with a tank top and bare legs..Perhaps adding some converse?
It will also transfer into the autumn winter season with tights and a baggy jumper.
It also comes in a blue and white stripe.

Dungarees
£13.00

- I saw this tassled top cast aside on a rail and I knew that I had to have it!
Not only do I love the tiger print on the front but I love the colour and the whole beachy effect!
I am looking forward to throwing this over my bikini and teaming it with denim shorts on holiday!

Fringed Top
£8.00

- Whilst I was in London last week, I took a bike ride with Dan in Hyde Park to soak up some sunshine.

I wore my floral headpiece that I had purchased in THIS HAUL.
Unfortunately somewhere in Hyde Park it blew away.. So I braved the Oxford St Primark to find a new one.
Sadly they didn't have the same one in stock which was a shame as I loved the rose petals..
However, I did find a similar style with daisies on and this made me happy as daisies look so beautiful in the sunshine and the head piece reminded me of a daisy chain.

Daisy Chain Head Piece
£2.50

And finally….
The reason I actually headed instore was to pick up some sandals that wouldn't rip my heels to shreds whilst I was hot on my feet at work.
I have a lovely embelished pair that I am saving for my holiday in three weeks.
You can see those HERE - however, I picked up these fringed sandals for everyday wear whilst the weather is sunny here in Yorkshire.
They are super comfy and I love the cowgirl-esc nature of the fringing

What have you been buying in Primark recently?

THE BEAUTY BOX CHRONICLE: GLOSSYBOX JUNE 2013

The Summer LooksEdition
-

The beginning of June has been a real pleasure, whether I have been down south in the capital or at home in Yorkshire the weather has been blissful.
It was a nice surprise to arrive home to this months Glossybox, which is aptly named
The Summer Looks box.

Lets take a look inside..

GOSH
Growth Mascara

"This mascara promises visibly longer lashes after two weeks of use thanks to
SymPeptide Xlash, a growth activator.
The special rubber brush gives length and volume to the lashes, while small rubber 'hairs' seperate the lashes and a bulk reservoir ."
*Perfume and Paraben free.

- The packaging feels very luxurious and I love the concept of a mascara that actually benefits the lashes as opposed to contributing to them falling out.
The wand is unlike any mascara wand that I have used before I usually opt for the thicker, bristle brushes so a plastic applicator will be a new experience for me.
I am looking forward to seeing if there are any noticable changes in the quality of my lashes.

*I have since been trying the mascara for a week and I absolutely LOVE it… The brush is some kind of miracle worker it lengthens and volumises all without clumping.
FULL REVIEW COMING SOON.

MeMeMe Cosmetics
66 Innocent

"The names of the MeMeMe polishes are inspired by the inherent qualities possessed by a true free spirit, each and every gloss tells a story."

- I must say that I am really unwowed by the colour of this polish, completely the opposite shade to something I would wear, it is a really unflattering colour.
I have experienced this before with other MeMeMe shades that have been included in previous Glossyboxes.
Not really a Hollie shade unfortunately.

Organic Surge
Shine Boost Conditioner

"Organic Surge Haircare contains no harsh chemicals and is totally free of commonly-used silicones that can dull and weigh down your hair."

- I am really interested in trying this conditioner as anything to boost shine in my freshly dyed barnet.
I am looking forward to trying a natural hair product as my hair is already loaded with chemicals.
It smells divine a real fruity and fresh smell.

Figs and Rouge
Multi Tasking Lip Balm
"Packed with AntiOxidants this lip balm can be used on cuticles, dry skin and can also be used for adding shimmer to the skin."

- I have been a huge fan of Figs and Rouge for a long time having tried their Rose balm before.
I love the kooky packaging and since I have a current obsession with multitaking balms this is
perfect for my handbag and I can tell it will become a makeup bag staple.
I have the Cherry Blossom fragrance that smells distinctly like those old corkers..Cherry Chapsticks!

Monu Spa
Hand and Nail Cream
"Finding a rich, non greasy hand cream for summer is not easy however this hand cream is designed to protect and care for hand and nails with uplifting oils."

- Although the number of hand creams that I am accumulating from Glossyboxes is becoming insane.
I have tried a Monu product from a beauty box before and have been impressed with the quality.
The cream is citrusy and fresh, perfect for adding some zing to my dry hands.

- Overall this months box is okay.
The mascara and multi purpose balm are my highlights with the rest of the offering being a little samey.
Alas, I look forward to seeing what is included in next months box.

Do you subscibe to Glossybox?
What was included in your box this month?
