THE BLOGGING CHRONICLE: OCTOBER 2013

HOT FROM oCTOBER

I don't know about you, but October seems to have whizzed past me in the blink of an eye.
I was reviewing my posts from last October and it all only seems like a month ago..
Welcome to my October 2013 favourites post!

So what's new this month?
This month my workload at university stepped up a gear and I seemed to be continuously lacking in sleep.
I really cannot wait to head home tomorrow and have a decent nights sleep and catch up with my family.

My friend Charlotte came to visit me and we headed to Chester for the day, it was just our luck that the trains stopped running and we were stranded for hours.

This month I also bought myself a new phone as my old Iphone 3GS finally gave up on me, it really is amazing to have a shiny new phone that actually works when I press a button!

I am really looking forward to November as of course it will be my birthday and I am in the knowledge that Christmas is one step closer!

Each month I take a look back over each post and pick out my favourites.
I also throw in a cheeky post from the achives for your amusement.

1.
I cannot get enough of MUA products at the moment, especially their £1 lipsticks, read my review of their shades 13 and 8 which are both fiery little red numbers!

2.
I was really surpised by Forever 21 jewellery, in all honesty I expected it to be quite tacky but I was really, really surprised by the quality and the prices of the pieces they have in store. I really recommend you have a look if you are near a Forever 21.

3.
Read my review of The Little Hottie by Mark Hill.
A tiger print hair dryer?
Yes please!

THE LIFESTYLE CHRONICLE: MY GYM ROUTINE

at the gym

For some, the idea of going to the gym scares them, afterall it is a room full of sweaty people all turning various shades of purple and red, putting their bodies through its paces.

When I found out last year that my university offered free gym membership at a fitness centre not far away I was quite excited.

Gym membership fee's can be crazily expensive and as a student there is no way I would have been able to afford the monthly outgoing.

As some of you may know I went through a particually rough time in my first year of university due to the living arrangements that I was thrown in to.
For me, the gym was a little safe place for me to go and work off all of my anger and upset - nevermind a refuge away from the foul flat that I lived in.

Within the year I managed to up my physical health and I was quite pleased with the results.
(You can read more about this HERE

In today's post I am going to talk through what I do at the gym and ofcourse I have to add a fashion element...What I wear!

I start by working in the weights area using the seated row and chest press for my arms and the leg curl and leg extender on my legs, if I am feeling particually gym happy I will use both the adductor and abductor for my thighs.

I then head over to the free weights to do some arm excersises.

Next I move onto cardio, which is my favourite as I feel that I get the most out of it.

I spend 30 minutes on the stepper.
I love the stepper as it not only sorts out my wobbly legs out, but it works me hard but less brutally than some of the other machines.

Afterwards I take a trip over to the cross trainer and finally to the tredmill where I run for 40 minutes.

* * * * * * * * * * *

My favourite gym T-shirt is by Brat and Suziewhich is available online on ASOS.

They print some really cute animal T-shirts, mine has a sweet elephant with rollerskates on.
I just pair it with leggings and ofcourse my trainers.

* * * * * * * * * * *

To help my muscles repair after a workout session I drink Maxitone.*

The variant I have is the Definity Protein Plus Toning System in Raspberry Ripple flavour.

THE JEWELLERY CHRONICLE: FOREVER 21

Necklaces at f21.

Last year I remember walking through Liverpool city centre and passing the Forever 21 store that was still very much under construction.
After hearing a lot of hype about the store on various american Youtube channels, I was excited for the shop to finally open.

I would describe Forever 21 as somewhere that sits between New Look and HandM in the English clothing market.
Although I think the clothing on offer is great I think that the store layout is highly confusing and is generally just too much for the eye to take in.

That said, I took my time to have a browse and was especially delighted with the jewellery section.

Pocket Watch Pendant
£8.90

I had seen something similar to these on a stall in London a few weekends ago and I regretted not buying one as I like the idea of a watch pendant on a long chain.
I love the embossed detailing on the back and the antique style.

Locket
£3.80

I have wanted a locket for such a long time now but have never gotten around to finding one I like, the style of this one and it looks like one that my mum has.
I can't wait to pop a picture in.

I was surprised by the style of the Forever 21 jewellery, I thought it would feel cheaper, but instead the pieces feel made to quality.
The price of the jewellery sits in the middle market, again a New Look kind of price range.

Have you been to Forever 21?
What did you think?

THE HAIR CARE CHRONICLE: PHIL SMITH

Argan Oil 'Hair Transforming Cream'

- Lecture's can send me off into a little daydream at the best of times nevermind a three hour straight session on something dry.
Last week I found myself examining the ends of my hair and what I saw was not pretty.
Over dying my hair over the past three months (in my crazy attempt for auburn hair) has left my ends which are probably around five years old very, very dry and damaged.

Why don't you just get them cut off I hear you ask?
Well, the simply answer is that I would rather have damaged ends than short hair.

Crazy.

In a bid to revive my crispy ends I am laying off the dye until Christmas, using quality hair products and trying out every oil, cream and balm that may help me smooth down my ratty ends.

Conveniently, my best friend is my flat mate, she lives in a room just across the corridor and happens to have a nice little stash of hair products.
Helen recommended me to try the:
Phil Smith
Total Treat Argan Oil - Hair Transforming Cream

I have used Phil Smith products before and have enjoyed using them so I was looking forward to giving this little pink potion a whirl.

The cream is applied to damp, towel dried hair.
The product itself smells lush, think coconuts and exotic places.

Once my hair was dry there was no denying that it was still ridiculously damaged but the ends felt much soften and less coarse, my split ends all pointing in the same direction.

Overall I am impressed with what the product has done to a poor state of affairs, I shall continue to use it in a bid to salvage whatever strands I can.

Thumbs up for the Hair Transforming Cream

Have you ever tried Phil Smith hair care products?

THE FASHION CHRONICLE: DIVINE TRASH CLOTHING

The DT Wish List

- I recently landed on Divine Trash clothing's website.
With a name like that how could I possible not have a nosey?
The style of the clothing is right up my street a little bit quirky.
Catering to both women and men, Divine Trash offer something for everybody from a whole host of recognisable brands...

DT Clothing opened its doors to the public on May 27th 2006 after a night out with James Blunt…(not forgetting Leeds University’s hospitality) and is a mixture of men’s and women’s contemporary clothing. It was our original intention to offer a niche selection of vintage clothing to a more price conscious fashionista but unfortunately however popular this proved to be with some customers – we decided to modify the store and now offer a range of exclusive named branded clothing to a more modern day fashion conscious crowd.
With payday on the horizon I wanted to share with you my Divine Trash 'Wish List'.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * *
1.
I would love to pair this basic, printed tee with leather look leggings, a mustard coloured snood - not forgetting the Dr Martens and faux leather jacket!

2.

I love the print on this bodycon dress.
I would wear throughout the winter with thick black tights and my Primark oversized blazer, ofcourse on my feet would be my creepers to pair together the femininity of the dress and the edge of the creepers.
I think the dress would be the perfect for saving until the summer time also, there is something cheery about this boho number!

3.
I would most likely wear these super skinny jeans with the Vaugue T-shirt from above, I love the vibrancy of the electric blue which I think looks great paired with black shoes.

Have you ever heard of Divine Trash clothing?
What did you think of my wish list?

THE FASHION CHRONICLE: TK MAXX, MATALAN AND PRIMARK HAUL

shopping. #2

I have a love hate relationship with barginous shops.
I love that I can afford to wear clothes that make me feel happy and well dressed, but I hate the way that I end up spending so much with the "it's only a few pounds" mindset.

I headed to Matalan which has recently opened up in Williamson Square in Liverpool.
I went in to find a bag that I could quickly convert into a uni bag as the strap on my duffle bag tore.

I ended up buying this tan, shoulder bag for £6.
It is just the right size for my folder, purse and phone, who needs to be toteing around loads of luggage anyway?

In TK Maxx I found some very summer appropriate baggy pants.
The trousers are high waisted and have elasticated bottoms.

Please excuse this carpet, I have to say it is not mine and belongs to yucky university accommodation.

I love the ease of wearing trousers like this, I always feel so carefree.
I bought them to wear all year around in winter with chunky knits and converse and with vest tops and embellished sandals in summer.

Finally after a long browse in Primark I bought this embellished belt to wear with my new trousers.
I like the mottled, red faux leather and stud mix.
Kind of Sienna Miller boho non?

I headed to the men's section on the hunt for a Rolling Stones T-shirt, as you all probably know I am a little bit obsessed with the Stones.

This tee looks great with leather look leggings, faux leather biker jacket and a chunky knit scarf.

What have you found in the shops recently?

THE HAIRDYE CHRONICLE: OLIA, OIL POWERERED PERMANENT HAIR COLOUR

7.40 Intense Copper

- The advert for the new Garnier Olia hair dye range really interested me when I first saw it appear on my TV.
As the facination with hair oils is still rife I decided to give the hair dye made up of oils a go.
Priced at £6.99 Olia sits at the higher end of the price bracket for home hair colour.

Olia is 60% oils with no ammonia.

It intends to provide:
-Maximum colour performance
-Up to 100% grey coverage
-Improves the visable quality of hair
-Optimal scalp comfort

As my quest for auburn hair continues I tried the shade
7.40 - Intense Copper

Pour the Developer Cream and the Colourant Cream into the Olia Jar and give it a shake

The packaging that the developer cream and colourant cream are stored in feels quite hardy and luxurious which reflects the price that you pay for the dye.

The scent of the product is fruity and floral which is nice to work with and prevents you from gassing yourself upon application.

The colour payoff is nice, again depending on your hair colour the outcome will vary but I am impressed with softness and the colour vibrance that the Olia dye provided.

Have you ever tried Garnier Olia?

THE BEAUTY CHRONICLE: MAKE-UP PRIMER REVIEW

The Gerda Spillman Primer

- A few weekends ago I took myself off to London to stay with my boyfriend and upon arrival at his flat he handed me a very familiar looking box.
Birchbox
Yes that's right the boy had given me a Birchbox that he had picked up for free outside of
London Fashion Week.

The boy done good.

One product that was included in the box interested me immensely.
The Gerda Spillman Hydro Pearl Make-up Primer

Now we all know my previous when it comes to primers, some have worked amazingly with my skin and my make-up…Murad Skin Perfecting Primer I am looking at you, and some have not worked at all and sent my skin into overdrive…Yes, we all know about
Porefessional Gate…Gahh it makes me shudder just thinking about it.

It was with these two very difference experiences in mind that I was both excited and nervous about
trying out the Hyrdo Pearl Primer.

To start it is water based which is always a good thing when it comes to problematic and sensitive skin.
The primer is non greasy and super light in texture and when applied to the skin minimises pores and reduces redness as well as adding plenty of moisture to the face pre foundation application.

A little dot of this product goes a long way and the burning question:
does it actually keep my make-up on for longer?
the answer is yes.

My foundation lasts up to three hours longer with the primer than when I don't wear one at all.
I would say that is pretty darn good, although at £30 for a full sized product it will have to be one for the Christmas list.

Which primer is your favourite?
Would you be tempted to give this one a go?

THE HAIRCARE CHRONICLE: REVIEW: MARK HILL HAIRDRYER

The little hottie

- The hairdryer.
An essential piece of kit in every girl's life.

I have had the same Toni and Guy
hairdryer for years and although I still absolutely love it for the brilliant settings it has and the quality of blow dry that it performs on my already over processed hair, it is not always that practical and
it is unbelievably heavy and bulky to transport around.

As you know, I do a fair bit of travelling around with a little suitcase and my Toni and Guy dryer adds weight and takes up a lot of space.
With this in mind I figuired that it was time to invest in a teeny tiny dryer that is easily transportable.

After a quick browse in Boots I came across possibly the smallest hair dryer I could find.
Allow me to introduce you to:
The Little Hottie from Mark Hill
retailing at £20.

"Don't be fooled by its size, this little hottie packs a punch in the style stakes!
Packed with all the technology you'll ever need, my amazing mini dryer delivers salon quality results every time. Incredibly light and portable, no matter where you are, this little hottie makes creating frizz-free, gorgeous shiny hair easier than ever.
We all love a little hottie."
-Mark Hill

This hair dryer packs some serious punch, at 100w it is uber lightweight and really does stop frizz from forming post blow dry.
It features two heat settings and a cool shot button.

I have to say that I love the tiger print design also, it is really quite fitting of the animal inside of this dryer.
Unfortunately I have an old injury on my right wrist that every now and again flares up and is very painful, because of this I was finding holding my heavier dryer a challenge so this is a great solution for people like myself who find bulkier hair dryers a little too hard to manage.

Have you ever tried Mark Hill products?

THE TAG CHRONICLE: I LOVE AUTUMN TAG

Autumn.

I have seen this TAG flying around on various blogs for a few weeks now as beautiful Autumn takes over from the summer season.
Autumn is my favourie season as it sparks change and I know some pretty exciting festivities are coming up such as Halloween, Bonfire Night, my birthday and of course Christmas!
I also love the crispness of Autumn, the nip in the air and the beautful colours of the leaves.
I TAG you all!

In Terms of Autumn what is your...

Favourite thing about it?
My favourite aspect of Autumn is the fact that the weather starts to change, that little nip in the air.
As a winter time baby I love cold weather and in particular the months September to December.

Favourite Drink?
My favourite drink all year around is tea (Yorkshire, of course).

Favourite scent/candle?
I love YSL Cinema as my Nana always used to buy me as a Christmas gift it reminds me of this time of year.
My favourite candle is Midnight Jasmine from Yankee Candle.

Best lipsticks?
My current favourite lipsticks are probably very typical of this season:
MUA - Number 8 and MAC - Rebel

Go to moisturiser?
When the weather gets colder it is super important to keep your skin hydrated, I always go back to my Bodyshop Seaweed Mattifying Cream.

Go to colour for the eyes
I have really, really been loving wearing MAC - Rubenesque paintpot paired with MAC's - Cranberry and Woodwinked eyeshadow's.
The mix of plum and gold just looks divine!

Favourite Band/singer  or music to listen to?
I have really been enjoying rediscovering Katy B this Autumn. She first appeared on the music scene in late Summer/ Autumn, 2010 which was a brilliant period in my life and her songs always remind me of that time, especially Katy On A Mission

Favourite outfit to wear?
My new oversized blazer from Primark and a gorgeous chunky knit jumper.

Autumn Treat?
Autumn is the only time I venture to Starbucks so my Autumn treat has to be a Starbucks, Pumpkin Spice Latte or a Chai Tea Latte.

Favourite place to be?
In London with Dan (I love London in the winter time) or back home keeping cosy!
My favourite place to be ever is just anywhere that my favourite people are.

What makes you feel Autumnal?

THE FASHION CHRONICLE: THREE MORE PRIMARK FAVOURITES

for the love of cloth.

- Primark.
Last week I headed in store and bought a few bits and pieces.

The first item I picked out was an oversized blazer that I have had my eye on for a few weeks.
I love this straight cut jacket as it is the perfect garment for inbetween weather.
It is lightly lined but still not overly flimsy and enough to keep you snug paired with a jumper underneath.
I also love the masculinity of the jacket and the tweed-esc aesthetic.
Priced at £25 a little part of me thought that this was a little pricey which is why it took me a few weeks to actually bite the bullet and purchase.
I have been wearing this jacket non stop since I bought it and I have to admit that I can't help but feel a little Fearne Cotton-esc wearing it with my trilby hat and Doc Martens.

I currently have a passion for long sleeved, long and lengthy tops.
I love this berry red top which I might add is super soft and snuggly against the skin.
It retailed at £6 and is available in navy and black.
I like to pair this top with leather look leggings and studded biker boots.

Finally, you may have heard about my little bedding fiasco at uni.
Well, I figuired that the way forward is to cheer myself up with some new sheets and as my obsession with tartan is still rife, I fell in love with this navy and red tartan bedding set which I purchased for £12.

What have you spotted in Primark recently?

THE BEAUTY CHRONICLE: 2TRUE NAIL POLISH

glossy red nails...

- Continuing with the red fever that I am currently experiencing I gave my beauty drawer a root around whilst on the hunt for a red nail polish.
I was astounded to see that even though I must own around 40 red nail polishes at home, I brought none of them with me to the flat.

Of course, this called for yet another trip to Superdrug.

Having read that 2True nail polishes give up to five days wear, I was interested.

For a mere £2.50 I bought the shade: 41 - not the most inspiring name I do have to say.

41 is a gorgeous pearl finish, true red that applies opaque in one coat.

I have been wearing the 2True polish for three days now and I have the tiniest chip on my little finger.
This is after three days of lugging huge Sony Z1 camera equipment around, various showers and cleaning the bathroom.

This polish requires no base or top coat to enhance the colour as it is already super glossy and spicy.

If you want a bargainous, long lasting polish then I would highly recommend this one.

Have you tried beauty products from 2True before?

THE MAKE-UP CHRONICLE: MUA £1 LIPSTICKS

MUA Lipstick In Shades 8
and 13

- A budget make-up brand that has consistently excelled in my opinion is MUA.
Available at Superdrug, the brand provides extremley affordable, yet great quality make-up.
Most of the products from the original MUA line retail at a mere £1 with the MUA Pro Base line products starting at £2.50.

For a week I had my beady eye on an lipstick that my best friend had in her make-up bag.
I just had to go out and buy it for myself after she raved about the longevity and amazing colour payoff that the £1 lipstick provided.

For £1 the lip bullet is pretty sturdy and substantial and a nice added touch is the little pot of extra lipstick attached to the end of the packaging which makes applying lipstick with a brush super easy.
With this added measure of product you actually get a hell of a lot of lippy for your money.

Shade: 13

This lipstick rivals my red lipsticks from MAC.
It is beautifully creamy and highly pigmented and without Lipcoate stays put for four to six hours.
If you are looking for the perfect true red then I highly recommend shade 13.

Whilst I was in Superdrug I also picked out another MUA lippy.

Shade: 8

After indulging in a true red, I figuired that a plummy red would suit the season perfectly.
Shade 8 contains little gold flecks and is not unsimilar to MAC New York Apple, again it is super creamy and moistursing on the lips.
The little gold flecks show on the lips but not garishly, I think this lippy is perfect for Christmas time!

Overall I am very impressed with the shades, colour payoff and longevity of these £1 lipsticks!

Have you ever tried MUA Lipsticks?
