For me, the explosion of red laid upon my fingernails and lips certainly does not stop as soon as the festive season is over.

Red is such a sophisticated hue that can scream passion in a single swatch and I can't help
but find myself experimenting with varying shades of crimson, tomato and vermilion all year round.

There's nothing more appropriate than a matching red lip and nail combo to banish the January blue's before they begin.

The Bold Red: For a mere £1, MUA's Lipstick in the shade 13 is the reddest of all reds packing in some serious ruby pigmentation. The lipstick itself is matte in style, yet ridiculously hydrating and creamy in consistency. The longevity of this lipstick is outstanding, lasting up to eight hours on my lips. If you want bargain, brilliant red in a bullet then this is your red.

Pair With: The ultimate accompaniment to this roaring red is the Kate Spade for Nails Inc polish in Big Apple Red.  Opaque in one coat and chip resistant for three days on my nails, I feel very Coco Chanel wearing this hue on my nails.

The Plummy Red: This is my current favourite red lippy, New York Apple from MAC is a frost finish lipstick which unlike most red shades and namely one MAC red in particular, it is non drying on the lips. The shade itself is bordering more on the deeper, plummier side of rouge which for everyday application it is very wearable.

Pair With: One of my all time favourite nail polish shades is 760 Cherry Crush by Revlon.
Like New York Apple it is a deep, pearl finish shade which also falls slightly into the plum shade family. This polish looks great on smaller nails, making them appear longer and healthier because of the multi pearl tones.
