Debbie Harry / Blondie Inspired Makeup Look

When an invitation to a fancy dress party landed in my inbox, a wave of mild panic washed over me. “Oh shit, this means I have to figure out a costume”- But the more I thought about it, I figured that I didn’t need to be scouting Amazon for a polyester costume that would never see the light of day again, I could work something out based on what I already had in my wardrobe and get creative.
Since chopping my hair into a blunt bob and taking my blonde-ness a level lighter I figured who better to go as than style icon and Queen of disco, Debbie Harry.
To source some inspiration I headed straight to Pinterest and discovered some pretty gorgeous pictures of Debbie rocking a bold lip with a contrasting colour on her eyes, my favourite look was of an orange/red smokey eye with an orange toned red lip.

B a s e: Keeping my base fairly matte and clean I copied Debbie’s sculpted and exaggerated cheeks by keeping my blush high and applying highlight quite liberally.
Almay Smart Shade Primer | MAC ‘Studio Fix Fluid’ in NW20 | Rimmel ‘Lasting Finish’ Concealer | Bobby Brown shadow in ‘Rose Gold’ | Bourjois ‘Delice De Poudre’ | Technik ‘Contour Stick’ | MAC ‘Mineralise Skin Finish’ in ‘Soft + Gentle’ | High Definition Brow Gel in ‘Dark Brown’

E y e s: Recreating Debbie’s look is all about the eyes and I had fun layering bold, warm shades over the lid against heavily defined and lined eyes.

L i p s: I didn’t have a true orange based red lippy to hand so I created my own by applying very thin layers of a matte red and a slightly more lustre finish coral.

C l o t h e s: I base my everyday wardrobe off a number of style influencers and Debbie Harry is one of them, that effortless rock ‘n’ roll look. I opted for a pair of sequin Joni jeans from Topshop teamed with a slogan tee from Primark which I bought for 2 quid (bargain!) My chunky, gold heels seemed appropriate if I was to be going for a Studio 54 vibe and they were another absolute bargain from H+M. I finished the look off by accessorising with a black choker from Misguided and was pretty happy with the result. A lady even said: “Are you Blondie?” which obviously means you’ve nailed your costume!
Who is your style icon?
